What is Google Business Profile?

Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is a free tool that allows users to promote a Business Profile and business website on Google Search and Maps. With an account, users can see and connect with customers, post updates to the Business Profile, and see how customers are interacting with a business on Google.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We utilize Google Business Profile for displaying new items on the web that may not be as visible on our physical website or, are a variation of a more popular item. That in turn brings in more visibility / sales to accessory type items (ex, a replacement rubber strap for a respirator mask).

Pros

  • I appreciate how you can select your amenities and customize your profile to stand out in a unique manner
  • it's super easy to add new products / post updates about your business
  • The use of pictures is helpful for our customers, we're at the end of a industrial park and it can be tricky to find the front of our office at times. Customers have mentioned our business profile pictures helped them locate us!

Cons

  • I don't love the new login, instead of prompting the user to login with your gmail credentials, you now just look up your business name and it logs you in instantly if you are logged into google already. - This is nice but, also feels less secure in a way.
  • I think the ads are a bit upfront and pushy but, nowadays what platform isn't.
  • I really don't have any other complaints regarding, Google Business Profile has been very helpful in growing our online presence.

  • I don't have any numerical metrics but, we have seen an influx in customers purchasing our hot hands ever since we listed them on Google Business Profile about a year and a month ago. We have since sold over 400 units since listing them as an available item.

Improvement in the positioning of our company.

Pros

  • Google My Business offers us an alert system in our work email, where we receive notifications when there is a new comment or review of our company. This alert system helps us to be aware of each of the opinions written by each client who has received our services, in order to be able to respond to each of them in record time.
  • Google My Business gives me a complete visualization of the clicks, location of the searches of my company and the visits that my business file has received. This visualization allows me to control access and measure the traffic that my business listing is generating in conjunction with the Google Maps service.
  • The update of my company file is done in real time and immediately. I don't have to wait several minutes for my company file to update. When I make a change to my company information, the changes are shown immediately to all clients who consult that business card.

Cons

  • Google My Business allows customers and visitors to our business file to send us a direct message in order to solve all kinds of doubts, however, that direct messaging has turned out to be a problem for us. The Google My Business service does not offer me a spam control of received emails, which causes the received messages panel to be clogged by spam messages. I would like Google My Business to have a service that regulates direct messaging, so as not to receive malicious emails and to only be able to receive emails from real customers.
  • The general operation of Google My Business has been completely successful, I have not presented problems with the data received statistically on the clients who consult my business file. I don't have any other Google My Business complaints.

Return on Investment

  • We have received more clients towards our exact location. Our clients can easily reach our exact location thanks to the integration with the Google Maps service.
  • When a person looks for a real estate company in the area where our company is located, we have a good position thanks to the reviews that our clients leave us.
  • I have achieved that my clients can have more confidence when they access our services. Thanks to the fact that I have been able to add photos of our company and our services in my business file of Google My Business, I have been able to get clients to see what our company is like.

Pros

  • Provides key location information to your clients, maps and pictures of the outside of your premises, especially useful if you have visitors to your location.
  • Lists opening times and variations for holiday periods.
  • Shows key product or service images.
  • Includes pertinent contact information.

Cons

  • Like most Google products UX / usability is often lacking whilst feature set strong
  • Changing a locations address can be difficult with support hard to access
  • Clients can add photos, if badly shot / composed these can be detrimental to your brand.

  • Provides social proof of real users experiences.
  • Is often the only information a visitor needs to visit your location providing a zero click search with no need to visit a website.
  • Ensures users can see an unbiased snapshot of a business.

Google My Business is for Me!

Pros

  • Location updates such as hours, phone number and location
  • Uniform and UX friendly layout
  • East to use backend for setting up listings.

Cons

  • It needs to be easier to edit. This is one of the worst run around websites out there that does not allow any easy, controlled edits.

Return on Investment

  • Allow our locations to be found eaisly
  • Integrates with Google and Google Ads
  • Direct over 10000 calls a year and over 17000 searches for directions to be handled

Google My Business is a No-Brainer

Pros

  • SEO
  • Providing quick information to customers
  • Reputation strengthening

Cons

  • Operating hours could be easier to change
  • Only-online businesses can't really use GMB without a location
  • Having to verify your location with a code sent via mail isn't the most convenient

Return on Investment

  • GMB helps us to get more calls
  • GMB is free to use so it is worth it
  • GMB is definitely a net positive for us
