What is Hololink?

Hololink is a web-based Augmented Reality editor which enables creation of AR through a visual no-code solution.

AR created in Hololink is served directly in the mobile browser without the use of an app, making the whole process from creation to end-user 100% browser-based.

Hololink gives creators access to:
  • A visual storyboard to ensure a clear overview of all end-user interactions and the entire user journey, making it possible to use rich storytelling.
  • The creation of multi-modal AR scenes containing 3D models, animations, audio, images, video, chroma-keyed videos and annotations.
  • A large third party library with thousands of free to use 3D models.
  • Standard libraries with curated 3D models, videos, images and audio.
  • The ability to upload any 3D models, video, images or audio of your own.
  • Preview a creation at any time in less than a few seconds.
  • Publish to a free hololink url for preliminary distribution.
  • Publish to a white label, personal url for commercial distribution.
  • Team features for collaboration on one or more AR creations.
  • Duplication of parts of or whole AR creations for testing different versions.
  • In-house developed image tracking that rivals the best image tracking on the market.
  • Quick and personal support.
  • Continual development of new features in close dialogue with customers.

Design and innovation in education with Hololink

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Hololink as an add-on in education. It gives our students an opportunity to work on different designs and visualization in their presentations and to work in 3D.

Pros

  • it´s easy accesible AR
  • it´s a welcome addition in 3d presentations
  • It gives access to tutorials at hand, when teacher is occupied elsewhere

Cons

  • I had problems with the triggers, but its been fixed

Most Important Features

  • Easy access
  • Easy to use
  • Plenty of tutorials
  • It doesn´t take a lot of time to get a great outcome

Return on Investment

  • As an educational aid its great but hard to measure

Hololink brings both the creation and experience of AR closer to everyday life

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Hololink for three things: 1) Making unique marketing materials and experiences for Handelsgymnasiet Vestfyn; 2) Making visual experiential aids in order to better engage students in the subjects that I teach; 3) Teaching students to make interesting, digital experiences using Hololink as a tool, which fits in well with some of the themes of informatics as a subject.

Pros

  • As opposed to all other AR creation tools that I know, Hololink does not require consumers to download an app, thereby bypassing the primary problem of creating AR experiences, which is getting people to download an app. Let it be known that native apps are going away, the future is web-based because it is easier.
  • The Hololink image-tracking, which enables AR elements to be projected upon real-world objects and images is exceptionally good compared to other AR projects that also use image-tracking. In Hololink your buttons, 3D models, and videos do not sail away from the objects that they're supposed to be attached to.
  • The people working on Hololink are very focused on UX, and the few times that I have had suggestions, they have been very attentive.

Cons

  • Hololink comes pre-packed with a lot of 3D models there are cases where I would like to write text on models directly, instead of using the annotation function which Hololink provides. It would be easier than having to upload my own 3D models, which is also possible.

Most Important Features

  • No app required
  • Great tracking
  • Intuitive editor

Return on Investment

  • AR is hot right now and thus helps attract people. In the future, the AR-excitement might lessen, but it has clear affordances in terms of communication that will continue to be relevant as long as people have smartphones or google-glasses or the likes.
