Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our organization primarily uses IBM Cloud Object Storage to complement our extensive use of IBM Cloud Block Storage, which is heavily utilized for virtual machines and high-load Oracle and TSM databases. IBM Cloud Object Storage addresses several critical business problems and enhances our data management strategy. The main scope of our Object Storage is to allocate data from web applications and IKS clusters.

Pros

 • IBM Cloud Object Storage is an excellent choice for disaster recovery and backup solutions. Its high durability and geographic redundancy ensure that our backup data is safe and can be quickly restored in case of a disaster. This capability is crucial for maintaining our business continuity and minimizing downtime. We have deployed our loads in an IKS cluster distributed in 3 different AZs with stateful data allocated in COS.
 • We have a video streaming application and need to store and deliver a vast library of video content to millions of users worldwide, so we store our data in COS, which is cheap and reliable.
 • We have a bunch of data that must be analyzed and stored in datasets for fraud detection, risk management, and customer insights. In these cases, this data is moved from Onprem to IBM Cloud so we can use cheap storage like COS.

Cons

 • Object Storage is not as fast as other Storage Solutions.
 • There is no backup option in Object Storage, only a snapshot.
 • Monitoring can be improved by, for instance, adding more granularity when you consult data occupancy.

Likelihood to Recommend

Well-suited: Big data applications with much data at a reduced cost. Stateful data in web applications Volatile and nonproduction data Less appropriate: Applications where you need a fast data response. Core aplications like databases o bussines aplications.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

It is being used by me as I test its capabilities. I use it as part of IBM Watson's Natural Language Classifier product to aid the company's marketing. I am championing the use of Python within the business and using things like NLC and NLP is facilitating those actions. Once I have a better understanding of the product, I will likely roll out features to colleagues. I would say that IBM Cloud Object Storage has become crucial for my data management needs, helping me address scalability and durability, and various other data-related challenges while providing a flexible foundation for my team's digital transformation efforts.

Pros

 • It allows you to store lots of data
 • It's easy to use
 • It's cost effective
 • It's great for archiving and backups
 • It's scalable
 • It's durable

Cons

 • The documentation around creating instances could be better
 • It might not be easy for a novice to get their head around
 • Navigation could be better
 • I'm sad that the Watson API demo is no longer available

Likelihood to Recommend

In my experience, IBM Cloud Object Storage is well suited for projects like the one I am working on. This includes the use of natural language classification and the uploading of data to train a machine learning model for tag suggestions based on a body of text. Using IBM Cloud Object Storage has helped with this greatly. IBM Cloud Object Storage has also been great for Big Data Analytics thanks to its scalablilty and ease of use for large datasets. Alongside IBM Watson and our team's internal big data tools we've managed to process and analyze data more efficiently, leading to key insights that have driven business value for our clients.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

My organization mostly deals with data, where we do research and provide the required information to our clients. Because of the variety of the data, we need an unstructured database that can be easily accessible and scalable. Hence, we found out that BM Cloud Object Storage is the right choice for us to go with. One of the main use cases is data storage and data analytics.

Pros

 • Data archiving - store and manage large amount of data in archive form also.
 • Data analytics - stored data are processed for the analytics purpose.
 • It supports hybrid cloud storage and can be integrated with on-premises storage for more flexibility.
 • Backup and recovery.

Cons

 • Searching and retrieving—full-text search or metadata search—is one of the significant areas of improvement. It isn't easy to search for data with this.
 • Integration with other IBM cloud services is trickier. For example, integrating this with API Connect to access the data from API will be difficult for users.
 • Support - I think you should have more support community.

Likelihood to Recommend

Hybrid cloud storage makes this easier to use with an on-premises database. Backup and recovery are so easy that it feels like you can get the data back in no time. Backup can be scheduled automatically, and storage is not a problem here. Recovery can be done with the selected storage key.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I effectively leverage IBM Cloud Object Storage to streamline my data management needs. Its robust features and scalability ensure seamless storage and retrieval of crucial data. The user-friendly interface simplifies the process of organizing and accessing files, while its robust security measures guarantee data integrity. IBM Cloud Object Storage has become an indispensable tool for my data storage and retrieval requirements, enhancing my workflow and data management efficiency.

Pros

 • Clarity of dashboard layout (and the ability to edit the the dashboard to fit our needs) makes it easy and intuitive to use.
 • Ease of navigation allows for quick selection of tasks to complete and/or manage.
 • Clear and reasonable billing options for usage.

Cons

 • Would like to be able to add a favorites list as a dashboard block for quick access to the most frequently managed resources (rather than searching the Resource List page).

Likelihood to Recommend

IBM Cloud Object Storage is well suited for businesses that require scalable and cost-effective data storage solutions. It excels in scenarios involving massive unstructured data, like multimedia content, backups, and archives. However, it may be less appropriate for organizations with minimal storage needs or those requiring high-performance, low-latency access to data, as it's optimized for durability and data integrity rather than real-time data retrieval.

Experience on using IBM Cloud Services

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I'm developing apps for object detection using tensorflow framework.

Pros

 • Storing Object Resources Charge-Free
 • Machine Learning
 • Image Classification
 • Object Localization/Detection

Cons

 • Some feature in "Computer Vision Learning Studio" is difficult or may not work at all, like for testing trained dataset/model.
 • "Computer Vision Learning Studio" notebook for dataset training runs slow, also no detail/description given when notebook cell is processing.
 • "Computer Vision Learning Studio" notebook needs python/tensorflow upgrade to meet current demand. From what I experienced, the notebook has python 7.x and tensorflow 1.x, which make it difficult to compare to latest version (like Python11, TF2)

Likelihood to Recommend

IBM Cloud Object Storage is very good for storing online files/directories. I also love that IBM has "Computer Vision" project which is very helpful in making dataset training (from dataset collecting, annotation, training & deployment) to testing.
