Use Cases and Deployment Scope

we are using it in different research projects and test it. IBM Edge Application Manager (open horizon), Management Hub was running thru the IBM Hybrid Cloud Mesh.

Pros

  • zero trust / end to end solution
  • multi cloud management\
  • strengthen resiliency

Cons

  • promoting and testing more open Source developments like IEAM (Open Horizon)

Return on Investment

  • no business \ only for research at this time

Alternatives Considered

IBM Cloud Private

Only introduced in 2023, but already a great service to integrate and manage cloud infrastructure.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

It allows us to connect to multiple clouds in and out of our network, useful as we have public and private clouds as well as on-premise network equipment. This includes public clouds such as AWS or Azure but also our own locally hosted servers. IBM Hybrid Cloud Mesh helps to reduce complexity in managing these services.

Pros

  • Integration of different cloud services
  • Automation to handle routine tasks
  • Oversight of our cloud infrastructure

Cons

  • It requires a steep learning curve for IT teams
  • Allow for customizable dashboards or to build custom workflows
  • Continue to invest in AI capabilities to enhance security, optimization and compliance.

Return on Investment

  • Difficult to measure as it does not result in additional revenue for us

Alternatives Considered

Azure Arc

Excellent and robust cloud migration support tool

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have onboarded IBM Hybrid Cloud Mesh to aid in our transition to the Google Cloud Platform from Openshift and in house servers, as a majority of our applications will undergo a phased migration. This connectivity has ensured that business isn't impacted, critical data is retained and management of hosting becomes easier

Pros

  • Optimal application uptime, as applications stay up even when they're migrating between clouds or from on prem to cloud
  • Standard dashboard allows us a holistic view of our applications and their status without needing dedicated cloud support staff
  • Connecting markedly different applications with differing tech stacks and layers has become easy because of the application centricity of this SaaS

Cons

  • Yet to implement network latency management, to help avoid overcrowding of requests at a single point
  • It doesn't exactly 'integrate' with the separate cloud systems, which often leads to knowledge gaps
  • Proactive monitoring is something that requires further focus

Return on Investment

  • Thanks to IBM Hybrid Cloud Mesh, application downtime during migration of our applications has been minimized, leading to hundreds of thousands of dollars of daily cost savings
  • A great deal of manpower is saved because no cloud support is needed to support the different cloud structures
  • The team also sees performance improvement due to the application centric approach of the product
