Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use IBM Planning Analytics mostly for financial planning, forecasting, and reporting and it's been super useful across different departments, especially when we need real-time insights, we also plugged in timeseries forecasting with Watson Studio which helps with better predictions.

Pros

it’s easy to use even if you’re not technical and implementation with the cloud version is quick
i really like the Excel integration—it keeps things familiar and adds more power
it can handle massive datasets in memory and still stay fast, which is a big deal

Cons

it doesn’t work offline, making it difficult for me to work or gather required data when I don’t have internet connection
the learning curve is quite steep

If you're dealing with large data and want speed and flexibility, then it is for you, because it has helped us a lot with reducing manual work and making better decisions quickly and IBM also listens to feedback and improves the product, which I appreciate.

The connection of operational metrics with financial metrics using the platform permits the creation of the highest visibility of network cost drivers. The organizational data structure is advantageous for comparing performance across different levels, from individual to the entire network. Though the initial setup required the cooperation of the finance and IT departments, the now efficient interfaces have made it possible for analysts to independently manage and update the models we need as we change.

Pros

The platform's engine supports creating models with references numerous directions at once.
Planning analytics allows continuous customization of preconceived concepts with immediate impacts based on the changing of the due date due to decisions during live planning sessions.
The integrated additional workflow formalizes daily planning for all key workflow elements in terms of input from other divisions within the financial planning models.

Cons

TM1 language is also quite different from Excel formula; therefore, it initially will take some time to adapt.
While complex analytical functionalities are adequately supported, options for graphics conversion by base data are not quite as comprehensive as in other BI suites.
The mobile version has even fewer features compared to the PC one, which is a problem when an executive has to analyze a complicated situation on the go.

From the use of this platform, it is evident that this has changed the way product design strategy is approached. Its workspace enables the optimization of the models with respect to desired design parameters and key performance indicators. It employs historical data along with forecasts, making the design decision sensitive.

Pros

It stands out by the multidimensional model, where one can perform modeling across several dimensions to get a holistic look into the impact.
Its planning analytics engine is based on analyzing the tendencies for client usage.
Integration of dynamic workflows makes it possible for various teams to work together immediately in efforts to decide on the strategies that have to be implemented.

Cons

Spending much time and effort to set the right dimensions and structures.
Despite the inclusion of many features, the interface provides too much information to the user.
Some components of the visualization can be not customized enough, and in some cases, they must be exported to other tools in order to be presented.

Likelihood to Recommend

This platform is good at seasonal cyclic patterns to support the design decisions; it is also good at recognizing the changes of the UI facets in relationship to the conversion ratings among the demographics. It is less preferred for the UX metrics that demand second analysis. It is especially effective at planning in the medium to long term concerning the effect of seasons for the user and distribution of resources.

It was essential in the beginning to give specific training to actually distinguish the difference between specialized workers; however, the experience effected by time has proved that it has offered higher returns through increasing the efficiency and the superior decisions. This way the actuaries do not have to keep track of the varied versions of the work in progress in other projects, and the integrated workspace helps the designers to work in coordination with each other.

It can be stated that assessment processes have been greatly facilitated with the help of IBM Planning Analytics. It normally takes three weeks to be fully trained to achieve the basic level, and others take a little time, usually ahead, to achieve intense features. They have been very simple to use with existing databases and financial systems, although some modifications were made to the system initially.

I would recommend IBM Planning Analytics for large assessment, especially when dealing with a portfolio with several features of the balance sheet. It performs well in data histories and creating a model that exactly gives the result as desired. However, it has certain drawbacks compared to the average situation or in the regions where statistical information is not that rich.

The finance team uses IBM Planning Analytics to pull togeather information from various systems, including relational databases, to create a user friendly database system to provide reports to the business relevant to management, marketing and operations.

Speed in searching and summarising information
ease of making consolidated reports
Simplifys the retriveing data

Cons

In my experience, large dynamic reports fail consistantly - IBM Planning Analytics should at least warn that they will fail before wasting the users time
In my experience, it links well to MS Excel but some better links to Google sheets would be helpful
In my experience, the user variables set up in programs using architect or perspectives cant be managed properly in the online project management environment. these user variables were a very useful tool for testing code.

IBM Planning Analytics is very useful for bringing togeather information from different sources into a single database to be used to combine the data and report on it.

It is very useful to create custom reports where there is a specific report format required, such as in finance reports.

It is very good at for summarising very large databases and making the information available very quickly.

Although is can be used to create all manner of applications it is sometimes used for applications where its strengths arent utilized and would be better served by an off the shelp app, like document management.

You can use it for deep analysis of sales data for example using Exploration View to show the total sales by product line generated by each sales representative, per area, then comparing that over time. You can then begin to complete "What if questions" - asking it to analyze the consequences of discontinuing retail sales compared to mail order methods, and what would be the likely implications on sales per region.

Analysis of financial data, as well as Analysis of complex sales data. It is really good at calculating possible future scenarios and options, that can then be moved into business cases, to justify proposals for management. The business cases can then be reworked in a live scenario to generation other options.

IBM Planning Analytics allows us to integrate data from our ERP and other sources. (any sources for that matter). We are able to have Sales Dashboards so we can measure sales performance. Also Customer P&Ls by Region by Sales Rep.

Allow Live reports to be sent to anyone without a license.

IBM Planning Analytics is used for Supply chain planning. It is used to develop a consensus demand forecast. It helps to prevent procuring the wrong inventory, and to encourage procurement of the right inventory, for a wholesale distribution business. Approximately 7000 products are forecast across 20+ locations. Users from Sales and Marketing collaborate to overlay market intelligence. This bottom up forecast is compared with the top down finance forecast (budget) and any gaps are investigated.

Dealing with an extremely large number of products and locations

User interface could do with some templates to speed up deployment
IBM Carbon has great flexibility but is cumbersome to use
