Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have some workloads that are hybrid in nature and IBM Power Virtual Servers help us in managing Linux workloads on it seamlessly without having to change our code. This has been a great game changer as otherwise we would have to change the whole architecture of our application which could mean a lot more cost and time on our side.

IBM Power Virtual Server is used in many ways in our organisation to address different use cases like disaster recovery and business continuity plan to make sure that we have a robust ecosystem in terms of business offering and every time end to end solution is available for lot of option basically for critical execution and workloads during different outages which may cause the business impact. It is also a kind of an hybrid approach where enables the Migration of load capacity distribution between on premises and cloud ecosystem offering higher flexibility it also have a certain use cases in specific to ERP system

It provides seamless integration between on premises and hybrid cloud
It offers disaster recovery solution which is a kind of a redundancy in the system itself
Ability to be cost effective and at the same time rapidly execution is really impactful in terms of scalability

Limited integration capability with legacy and both next and capabilities like AI
Complexity in which the process is being executed or tool is being manage or the overall ecosystem is being offered

IBM Power Virtual Server helped us efficiently store vast volumes of client data, handle critical programs and maintain good data encryption. And due to their efforts, we were able to keep our systems constantly up and running. Also they are very reliable as they also provide support for both cloud hosted project environments and ERP solutions.

exceptional safety with several layers of protection guaranteeing data security
it has both high speed and great adaptability and hence we can meet any demand from our clients
it is a very scalable solution that effectively controls even the most heavy loads

Cons

for some smaller companies, the hefty rates for licenses and updates can be unaffordable
performance may suffer from the intricacy of the program as well as the expansion limits of the graphics card
other programs on your computer might perform slower or maybe crash depending on how much system resources this one utilizes

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are using it to manage our AIX servers on Power 8 and Power 9. Since we acquired it, configuration setup for a new server request has been much easier, saving us the time. We have created templates for various requirements and just mount it when a user places a request in SysAid ITSM tool

Handles it's upgrades very well

Waiting for the day windows can be installed on it

From my little experience over this period, i will say it is well suited for server provisioning. The capability of creating templates ,which we have standardized in our environment, and reuse it any time there is a request is great. it saves configuration time. The only less appropriate scenario i can mention is the time i needed to restore a backup and realized the snapshot available did not have the most recent data but it least it had restored to a point.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use IBM Power Virtual Server to run our mission-critical applications. It is great for reliability and flexibility. We can run multiple LPARs on one physical server to get the best performance and make the best use of the resources.

Ability to move workloads from one physical server to another.

Cons

Better ability to monitor all the resources in a pool.

Due to its reliability, it is well-suited for mission-critical applications. It is also well suited for running multiple applications on a single server and fully utilizing the server's full capacity. However, it is not well suited for servers that require dedicated IO resources.

Our bank uses IBM Power Virtual Server to run our heavy data analytics workload for projects involving transaction analysis, risk monitoring, and prospecting. We've also used IBM Power Virtual Server in our development lifecycle for Dev and UAT environments to help with ad-hoc compute requirements during software development.

Reliability - its critical for us in banking to have a 99.99% uptime SLA and IBM Power Virtual Server provides that
Virtualization - PowerVM helps us with isolation needs to separate data based on entitlements.
