Use Cases and Deployment Scope

In our organization we had separate storage for file and database, now with IBM Spectrum Accelerate we were able to unify them. Implementing a solution with IBM Spectrum Accelerate product was one of the best decisions made for managing our in-house data center, It helps us organize ourselves with all the information from our backups at the SAN and NAS level.

our scenario, for example, is very suitable to take advantage of all the capabilities that IBM Spectrum Accelerate has, because we manage all our infrastructure in a virtualized environment with Vmware

It is a highly flexible storage solution that enables rapid deployment of block storage services for new and traditional workloads. Spectrum Accelerate is provided as a software-defined storage product for VMware ESXi hypervisors and can be installed on 3–15.

Cons

Once it is successfully deployed, the XIV technology software-defined storage solution – namely IBM Spectrum Accelerate – is reasonably easy to operate, manage, monitor, and maintain.
As a virtual appliance application, IBM Spectrum Accelerate must run on a VMware ESXi hypervisor. Consequently, the planning must necessarily encompass different ESXi environment aspects, including network, storage, virtual machine resources, and general cluster configuration.

Likelihood to Recommend

An IBM Spectrum Accelerate system requires sufficient physical connectivity with 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10 GigE) connections. Virtual networking switches must be associated with the physical network and the virtual network ports. In addition, it is highly recommended to provide multiple physical network device connections to each IBM Spectrum Accelerate module for network redundancy in case of network device failure.1. It is a very good product based on IBM XIV storage technology that enables rapid deployment of block storage services for new and traditional workloads, on-premises, off-premises, and in a combination of both.

Likelihood to Recommend

I recommend this product in cases when we have to Deploy scale-out storage grids in automated environments; it can be done in minutes rather than days. Another exciting point is the quality of service that it allows for establishing different performance tiers without a need for physical tiering. A point against, from my point of view, is connectivity because it only provides a connection by iscsi.
