We are using it to learn new skills. It is not a mandated use, but everyone can jump in to expand their knowledge on anything work-related or not. We got the freedom to choose whatever topic or subject that we want to learn. Some of my coworkers are using it to learn more about their finance and how to manage that. I prefer to expand my computer science skills.

You Khan Do It!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Khan Academy is an excellent resource. We use it internally for quick training, answering questions, figuring out odd issues, or just learning something new when things are slow. The lessons are easy to follow and usually interactive, especially for things like SQL learning. Our favorite feature of the tool is its price: free!

Pros

  • The UI is great and easy to use.
  • There is a broad selection of courses, subjects, and instructors.
  • The classroom integration option is awesome.

Cons

  • While the UI is easy to use, it is quite simple, meaning it doesn't seem as refined as something like Lynda.
  • Since there is a big focus on K-12 learning, it is sometimes difficult to find relevant adult learning courses.
  • I would like at least one or two specialized courses in each subject. For example, in world history, it would be nice to see a specialized course in Europe.

Most Important Features

  • Accessibility
  • Ease of use.
  • Price

Return on Investment

  • Since this is a free platform, the ROI is limited only by the time put into learning a subject.
  • A downside to this course-style learning is the inability to have a specific question answered, or quickly learn a specific task in a software program. It is designed to build your knowledge of a topic one step at a time.
  • A positive to this style of learning is you gain much more knowledge of a topic vs. a single piece of information or a single skill.
