Lavu works well for small companies.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We started with Lave as our POS system for both the cafe and event services within our establishment. After the cafe closed, we continued to use Lavu for our events. Lavu is used to ring up customer tabs at events and helps me as an accountant know how much in sales we received per type of item sold. I personally started with Lavu on the front end with ringing people up and now use it more on the back end with reporting.

Pros

  • Ease of setting up, editing, and deleting menu items.
  • Tracking employee hours
  • General reporting

Cons

  • Customer service
  • Reconciling between all tablets and backend reports. Occasionally receipts go missing and are difficult to track down.
  • Inventory

Likelihood to Recommend

For a small company with little inventory, Lavu is a great simple POS system. For a larger company or a company where items are always changing, I would not recommend Lavu as more transactions increases room for error and ultimately takes away the time one doesn't have to figure out how to reconcile something. Customer service is not always able to fix the problem right away and can take months getting back to you on the reasoning behind a discrepancy in reports.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Lavu as the Point of Sale at our brewery to manage all sales including food, swag, and beverages.

Pros

  • Setting up menu items in POS
  • User-friendly once everything is loaded
  • Easy to make changes to menu items on the fly from any mobile device
  • Initial training

Cons

  • Split check credit card transactions, seem to have issues with some of the checks not closing out properly or being charged correctly
  • Servers being allowed to run server summary even though they have unpaid checks (not supposed to happen)
  • Have had the system go out on a weekend and took 20 plus minutes to get back online
  • Calling the help desk on the weekend is a joke, takes 45 to 90 minutes to get help

Likelihood to Recommend

This product is well suited if you need two supergroups, need to manage inventory, and need be a POS.

Lavu doubles as a business tool and a teaching module.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As a culinary and pastry arts instructor I use Lavu as both an instructional tool as well as the POS system for our in-class restaurant. I find the back of the house/management part of Lavu is an excellent hands-on tool to teach all the parts of restaurant management theory. It provides students with a real-life application that helps them understand the theory better.

Pros

  • The Lavu system is incredibly easy to use in both front and back of house operations. The format of both sides is very intuitive.
  • Lavu makes it very easy to add real life application to teaching inventory control, schedule control, etc.
  • The fact that it is cloud based makes life much easier. I can make changes on the fly and they update very quickly.

Cons

  • The only issue I have had with Lavu is that when my IT department makes changes our filters make it difficult to edit/update the system. Lavu's technical help has always been great.

Likelihood to Recommend

Lavu is very easy to teach to new employees. I use it to teach high school students with little to no previous experience and they pick it up very quickly.
