M1 requires extensive training to use the large library of resources

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use the M1 Production modules to create shop jobs along with closing those jobs and analyzing costs from them, tracking inventory, receiving purchase orders, and posting shipments. I Also use the Financial modules for accounts receivable, accounts payables, and general ledger entries.

Pros

  • tracking inventory commitments
  • tying purchase orders to a/p invoicing
  • generating accounting reports
  • creating job costs when jobs are handled correctly

Cons

  • The job management module has flaws that have never been fixed including making it appear as if stock subassemblies can be made on a sales order job. This in fact always ends with costing errors and should not even be allowed.
  • The default entry spaces in different modules should have more uniformity. Each module seems to react differently to menu prompts.
  • Some processes throughout M1 take too many steps. It seems like there is room for simplification in many areas.
  • There is an abundance of reports that just makes the system seem chaotic.
  • The various "wizards" are not user-friendly and the instructions are totally lacking.
  • The g/l account number composition could be simplified.

Likelihood to Recommend

M1 is well suited to a company that has exorbitant time to learn how to generate and read the various production reports.
I have to believe there are ERP systems that make daily use more streamlined and efficient for the average smaller company.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Business problems I would think is our inventory. It's never accurate, so that always causes a headache at the end of the year when we're doing year end inventory.

Pros

  • It makes shipping easier. The sales orders are easier to process. AR is easy to process from a posted shipment.

Cons

  • That would be within the reports itself. At closing the stock status and the GL detail report. Sometimes that's not always accurate. If there's anything messed up on the front end, your reports are going to give you false numbers on the back end. So you have to really stay on top of your inventory and stuff like that to make the reports come out accurately.

Can't even think of a scenario right now.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use M1 in every aspect of our business. From quoting to AP. It gives us an all included solution to manage our business from front to back. Including reporting on existing and past jobs for costing and analytics. We love that we can customize M1 to fit our needs and have customized it extensively.

Pros

  • Customization of reports and entry screens
  • Security of data and user control
  • API integrations

Cons

  • Speed of entry screen loading
  • training for users
  • in depth training for more advanced customization

Likelihood to Recommend

M1 is best suited for an organization looking for a true front to back ERP solution. M1 is okay out of the box, but unless you have someone with the skill set to customize to your liking, it may not be a good fit as each customization provided by M1 is usually a cost.

Trying to find an ERP solution, we compared many and found that this one fit the majority of our needs. It helps us through its customization with the Inventory, Jobs, RMAs, Sales Orders, Invoicing and Reporting. It tremendously helps with the interlinking of one function to another. It’s not very UI friendly.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use M1 company wide. It does everything from purchasing to inventory to production scheduling. Before M1 we had many disparate systems that we were able to combine into one source of truth.

Pros

  • Inventory Management
  • Accounting
  • Customization Capability
  • Plug-ins

Cons

  • CRM
  • Antiquated Code Base
  • Customer Service

Likelihood to Recommend

It is well suited and flexible enough to fit most manufacturing environments. M1 do a great job helping departments interact seamlessly and efficiently with out a lot of hallway conversations. M1 tends to be met with some angst over the outdated UI, but once users learn the software they are quick to understand it's power and potential.
