We have a couple of uses for Matterport. We do a Matterport scan at least 4 times throughout the project. One before the project to gather existing information, the second when concrete is cut and underground plumbing is installed, the third when 4 way is complete before drywall is installed, and last, to see the finished product. This allows us to document the project and keep track of what happened and when. There have been many times after drywall has been installed that we are able to look at Matterport and find outlets that have been covered and where blocking is to finish the installation of products. Matterport has saved us and our customers a lot of time and headache of having to cut multiple holes in the walls to try to find outlets and other objects. We have also used Matterport to show the existing conditions of the home to limit the number of times that our engineers or designers have had to go on site. The scope of our use is to help with the initial design before construction and continued use throughout the project's construction to save time, and money, and keep the best quality finished product for our clients and owners.
Pros
Matterport is extremely useful for showing the existing conditions of space and presenting it to many different people and firms.
Matterport works well with data and information documentation during the project's construction. This makes going back to find covered objects easy and productive.
Matterport works well with demonstrating the position of the project to clients and owners.
Cons
The Matterport Capture app has some bugs and issues where some scans don't align well and additional time is needed re-scan in the same location multiple times.
Likelihood to Recommend
Matterport is very well suited for showing what a space looks like without having to have contractors, designers, or clients on-site multiple times. We have used Matterport to send out existing and current information to help with bidding, design, and construction documentation. The Matterport app does not do as well on the outside of a building where there are not a lot of differences in-between scans. Matterport does work very well for interior spaces, homes, and businesses.
