Use Cases and Deployment Scope

After initially depending on O365 filters only we were consistently flooded with Spam and Phishing attacks regardless of how hard our security admin worked to respond. Through the use of Mimecast Advanced Email Security this has fallen to next to zero. Additionally, by tracing failed messages we were able to find misconfigurations in our environment which had been affecting our client service.

Pros

  • Detection and blocking of dangerous content
  • Prescanning of links in e-mail
  • Enhanced ability to maintain block and permit lists
  • Detailed tracking of messages and event

Cons

  • The user interface is not always as intuitive as I would like
  • Client Service is slow to respond even to P1 requests

Return on Investment

  • By separating the wheat from the chaff so to speak, we can focus on important e-mail as opposed to junk.
  • We are regularly able to demonstrate the volume of e-mails and the amount of content blocked.
  • We have not had a single machine take-over as the result of a user clicking on a dangerous link.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Mimecast Advanced Email Security to filter through all incoming and outgoing emails within our corporate Enterprise. This is an essential tool for any organization. However, Mimecast Advanced Email Security is not great. The web portal is EXTREMELY unintuitive and difficult to navigate. The different folders and pages are not well named or laid out. The filters are inconsistent and we are constantly having to add more policies to change filtering rules. There has been nothing we can do to avoid having to spend tons of time daily looking through Mimecast Advanced Email Security blocked emails. Also, our Mimecast Advanced Email Security support concierge or helpdesk team have been extremely unhelpful. either they tell us our settings look good and nothing needs changed or they just completely ignore our emails and ghost us. They refuse to take responsibility when there are issues with the product. As soon as our contract ends we are going with Checkpoint IMMEDIATELY. After having so many issues we have done extensive research and we know Mimecast Advanced Email Security is not the way to go. I know several other IT professionals who have similar grievances with Mimecast Advanced Email Security.

Pros

  • Blocks emails
  • Warns that emails originate outside the organization

Cons

  • web portal sucks to navigate
  • inconsistent filtering
  • support is very unhelpful and unfamiliar with the product.

Return on Investment

  • increased security
  • tons of man hours spent messing with stupid stuff and releasing emails that shouldn't be held. Sometimes we whitelist a sender and stuff is still held.

We use mimecast to protect our organizational environment against email threats, spam filtering, and data leak prevention. It helps ensure that no emails with personal information gets out and is stopped.
