After using Monetate for quite some time now, I can safely recommend it for A/B testing as well as a ton of other really cool additional features. It has personalized search, product recommendations, journey analysis and a bunch of other really cool features. Depending on what you implement, there will be a little learning curve, but the team is very dedicated to guiding and hands-on help, throughout the process. It's easy to see the wins and it's hyper fast for putting new marketing in place, with or without a test component. I highly recommend.
Pros
Search recommendations
e-commerce product recommendations
A/B testing
Cons
there is a bit of complexity, but with anything robust, there will be.
Interpretation is still in the users hands, so make sure you know the details
Likelihood to Recommend
The product recommendation engine works exceptionally well. It is something that can be implemented right away, even with its learning component. I would also say that using multiple tests at once, while other things are going on is easier than a lot of other tools out there.
I use it in emails to create product recommendation zones. I communicate to our UX/UI designer what I need as far as recommendation zones. I have also gone in and created them myself and had his team update the code.
Pros
It provides code that can be applied to emails.
Cons
In our experience, the customer service and communication is not great. Our account representative was hard to get in contact with and would allow meetings to fall off the calendar.
In my opinion, the site is not super user friendly. I have a hard time remembering how to navigate it each time.
Likelihood to Recommend
I think it worked for creating recommendation zones in emails, but it seemed like these would easily break over time. I felt like we were constantly redoing these zones instead of being able to use the same ones. Many ESPs now provide product recommendation builders in house and these can be more convenient, straight forward, and user friendly.
We use Monetate as our AB testing and site optimization tool on the website. We test a wide variety of things, from simple creative copy tests to apps and personalization elements. We also use it to run targeted experiences for promotions and new product releases. We look to Monetate to help measure the effectiveness of different elements on the site and see how various layouts, creative, and copy can impact our conversion rate and bottom line.
Pros
Simple to launch a/b testing.
Scheduling start and ends for various experiences.
Popups for customer notifications.
Cons
Integration elements with Shopify.
Custom goals for AB testing.
Options to integrate in with CDP tools and audiences.
Likelihood to Recommend
I have not been super impressed with the support we have received or the insights shared by our CSM. We raised some concerns about our testing confidence that were left unanswered, and generally, the tests take much longer to get results than I expect them to. This has been a bit of a disappointment after using so many other tools over the past 7-8 years.
AB testing and personalization platform for B2C or B2B With powerfulness comes a bit of complexity. Not necessarily a fault on the Monetate side, but it's just how it is. However, it takes quite a bit to get used to the UI and really make the most of the options.
Pros
personalization
a/b test
email
Cons
interface
ui improvements
configuration clarity
Likelihood to Recommend
suited well for established platforms, custom implementations can be tricky

Pros

Monetate was easy to integrate to our site.

Item recommendations are not always relevant.
Likelihood to Recommend
Monetate is great for creating personalized web experiences and is simple enough for non-technical users to learn and leverage. Some functions do require support to set up, but Monetate customer support is readily available, taking the time to review the use case and demonstrate how to achieve it.

Monetate is mostly used in our organization for preparing a feed for the customers to show recommendation rails to the customers. The business problem it solves is to help in recommending better relevant products on the customer's feed which gives a better exposure to different kinds of products.

Recommending relevant products on customer's feed
Giving a better exposure to different kinds of products
Cons
There should be an option to configure Monetate experiences for pre-prod environment
Datasets page is too slow to load, irrespective of the network
Should be an easier way of changing attribute datatypes in a dataset
Likelihood to Recommend
Monetate is well suited for promotional banners, offer strips, recommendation rails.

Monetate has allowed us to scale our AB testing program to an impressive system that flexes to our needs. It has allowed us to break out of the box of an inflexible CMS to create new and dynamic site experiences that serve our customers better. The lightbox experiences has been particlarly powerful in accelerating our on site personalization and conversion goals while our site itself is in flexible in some areas.
Pros
A/b testing
Audience targeting
personalization
Cons
Analytics flexibility in tool
engagement rate calculations
Experiences that can be built by business users
Likelihood to Recommend
If you need a third party for testing, Monetate is a great way to scale quickly. It also has a laundry list of ways to target users, by location, behavior, or actions that lets you kick off a personalization program out of the box. We are also encouraged by the potential is has to help scale our personalization program with integration to a third party CDP.
Alongside our 3rd party agency, we use Monetate to improve the customer journey on the [...] website. We also use the platform to promote promotions such as badging and html text. We are in the process of testing recommendations through the platform.
Pros
Easy to load badges onto products
Setting up an experience is straightforward
Can easily pause experiences in the main dashboard
Cons
platform colours are dull
assign a web experience a colour tab
Be able to schedule a change to a current experience to go live instead of setting up a new experience
We often perform A/B testing of copy and campaigns to see what generates more user acquisition or retention. As an example, we could be testing what generates more orders, free product with orders or % discounts with orders and we use Monetate to test something like that. Monetate provides great fixed KPI monitoring to help us make decisions on which test is more successful, even multivariate tests, to help us pick the best option to default.
Pros
A/B Testing
Multivariate Testing
KPI Monitoring
Change monitoring
Multiple tests in parallel
Cons
Changing test parameters after launching the test
Recording some user sessions that are part of the tests
Providing user insights for example demographics (if possible)
Likelihood to Recommend
Scenarios where Monetate is well suited: - Setting up simple A/B tests - Where tech team doesn't have bandwidth to get involved, Monetate is pretty simple and PMs can easily get onboarded on it - Making admin changes to integrated products
Scenarios where Monetate is less approprioate: - Setting up bigger A/B tests that go across multiple components of a website - Where dev involvement is too high

A/B Testing experiences and QA. I use it personally for design QA on new experiences. And for A/B/Multivariant testing, and analysing metrics / user behaviour.
Pros
Metric reporting
A/B Testing
Cons
More guidance, how to's, documentation
UI / usability improvements
Interface can be difficult to interpret and find what you are looking for
Takes a long time to learn how to use, this could be improved with better documentation & improved interface to make actions easier
Likelihood to Recommend
It's a powerful tool for managing and monitering customer facing experiences that can handle and assess data and metrics. However, the interface is not user friendly, there are many stakeholders within the business who use Monetate, many of whom are not advanced tech users, with limited knowledge in processes and terminology. Monetate would benefit in catering for these users also.
