With the advent of POPIA Compliance requirements within South Africa, this tool, Voltage SecureData was able to assist in encryption capabilities, beyond this, it allowed a certain level of access of data not to be passed onto the wrong or user that might not be to "see" customer/user data. Due to the power of FPE (Format Preserving Encryption) it allowed encryption to not be bloated and could be run as a batch job runs. The capability extends across mainframe systems, which technically allows downstream applications to almost consume encrypted data for "free" This has allowed many departments to carry out housekeeping functions on their data, almost to upgrade their data hygiene. With many companies opting to have workloads moved into the cloud, this tool has allowed encrypted data to travel into the cloud and there is also a gateway functionality where it sits at the edge to search for certain keys words with would be encrypted on leaving the on-prem environment. This further allowed archived data to be moved onto slowed storage whilst once again in the event of a data breach, the data almost looks real due to the power of FPE. It is with this functionality that is really powerful.

A compliance tool - if you are aiming for your organization to become PCI compliant or even POPIA/GDPR compliance this will aid you in your journey. Protection of data within your organization in the event of a data breach. Test Data Management, in the use case of your Developers having too much production data to test with, we can encrypt the data and then move to the necessary areas showing almost real life data sets to be used.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I used it across the entire org to try to address the issue of encrypting my email traffic to and from my domain, and to prevent my email from failing into the wrong hands or being examined as it transits across the Internet.

Pros

Cloud-based portal making it easier to implement for smaller businesses
Plug ins for Outlook and Office 365 email apps to make one-button encryption easier for users to activate. For Office apps like Word et al you have a special menu that you can add users to your senders and specify access rights to encrypt your messages from within these apps.
An add-on utility to encrypt any sized files is part of the package. Many of its competitors have limits on email attachment size, this is a way around these limits.
The product does support integration with a third-party tool from Digital Guardian (https://digitalguardian.com/) for DLP features.

Cons

Its web-portal is pretty bare bones, unlike some competitors that are more feature-rich
Its documentation is also voluminous, making it hard to find something since it is spread across multiple manuals for particular features.
It doesn't support IMAP connections, unlike some of its competitors.

Likelihood to Recommend

Larger corporations that require identity-based encryption would benefit from the product.
Smaller corporations that want a more feature-rich product with a better user experience would not benefit as much.
