Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I am fairly new to using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in my team. I started learning and using it when the requirement in my team was raised for many reason like scalability, pricing flexibility and security for oracle servers. We use Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for the pre-prod and Prod servers. Oracle provides a nice feasibility to manage VM instance and solutions for the resolving issues and growing need of business. So far its been a great experience.

Pros

  • Sacalibitly
  • Management
  • Availability
  • Cost Saving

Cons

  • Support team
  • Guide Documents

Likelihood to Recommend

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure provides secure, time-limited, and restricted access to private resources. It monitors the security posture of your OCI tenancy and provides alerts and automated responses to security issues

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - The Best Cloud Partner in todays world

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Oracle Cloud Infrastructure as our cloud provider for one of the biggest supply chain provider organizations in the world. All our 500+ customers are hosted on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, and everything is going as expected with it. Initially, we never had our own infra so we were dependent on customers' owned infra and managing each infrastructure from customer to customer for us was a critical task. So with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, we hosted all our applications in one place and we are giving them as a SAAS product.

Pros

  • More Reliability and especially Oracle Database
  • Pricing is really impressive
  • UI is very easy to manage and has explanation for each step
  • Easily integrated to other clouds as well

Cons

  • They should introduce messaging queue like pub/sub or sqs
  • When major outage comes we see delay in communication from them
  • Customer support needs an improvement
  • MySQL and some more services

Likelihood to Recommend

As per our usage Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for almost 6 years hosting 500 + customers I can say its well suited application for any small scale to larger scale application as it can handle that capacity and provide more reliable cloud service only if you need any messaging service like pub/sub or sqs better to consider other services.

Cost-effective cloud platform for Scalable Solutions

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We used Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse for querying large datasets and its Database service for managing relational databases.

Business Problem Solution:
Handling changing traffic was a challenge for us and for this we needed dynamically scalable storage resources, which was achieved using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
We currently operate on environment where we are using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for our new projects while also migrating the legacy systems.

Pros

  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure helps you dynamically scale the compute and storage resources.
  • It offers competitive prices when compared to other providers, which is great plus. Also, the free tier is available which comes handy for running smaller instances or personal projects.
  • Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse also integrates well with Oracle analytics and is useful for exploring and visualizing data fast.

Cons

  • Initial setup is time consuming and can be complex, there a longer learning curve for first timers.
  • Documentation provided is vast, which can seem inconsistent and also confusing at times.
  • The user interface could be improved to make it more user-friendly

Likelihood to Recommend

For a scenario, where there is a requirement for dynamic scaling of storage resources, i would recommend Oracle Cloud Infrastructure i.e. for large query sets because if you using oracle databases, you can check OAC for embedded analytics, that will visualize the data for storytelling to business users.
The initial set can be a bit challenging, and if you rely on documentation too much, then that could be confusing and time consuming.

Good Value for money

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We started using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure service as it was offering us some machine as lifetime free which was not exactly the case. We thought of having diverse vendor service as dependency on single cloud service was not good. The performance of provided machine was quite good and we created few test instance on it. Later on we realize that provided compute service was free for some time only.

Pros

  • We mainly used ARM based processor which provided good performance
  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure provides their own flavor of operating system and other OS that you can choose from
  • Object Storage service is also good and even provides more limit the other market vendors

Cons

  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure function provide very limited memory which is very less compare to other service provider
  • Lifetime free terms and conditions are not properly defined.
  • Transcription and vision service needs improvement.

Likelihood to Recommend

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure services are really good when to comes to compute power, networking and scaling and Managed Database service too. Comparing to GCP and AWS they're bit new but they're improving with time. As of now they need improvement in their ML tools.

We are extensively using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in our organization which includes IaaS, SaaS and PaaS services. With Oracle Cloud Infrastructure we are easily able to deploy the applications without much involvement of other infrastructure team. With Oracle Cloud Infrastructure management of Databases is very easy and with autonomous databases, we don't have to worry about maintenance work like patches, backups etc.

Pros

  • Autonomous operations of databases without much human interventions.
  • Easy scalability of infrastructure like, compute, storage etc.
  • Highest security because of data encryption and data masking.

Cons

  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure could provide better integration with third-party tools and applications.
  • Migration from legacy system is challenging with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is expensive for mid cap companies

Likelihood to Recommend

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is well suited for Oracle based application and databases. In our organization we are using Oracle autonomous databases which works best for us as there is no hassle of maintenance. Apart from that we are using Oracle e-business suite application for financial and HR purposes which works perfect with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Migration Back to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Team was used to work on Oracle DBMS and very skilled and highly practiced on it. Later in time, all were migrated to different Cloud service just for modernization. It was not very helpful and costs were very high. So again, with client permissions, we are slowly moving back to Oracle products and services on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

Pros

  • OCI DataBase Management
  • Looking for option for migrating Mongo collections
  • ML

Cons

  • More user friendly IAM
  • Performance goes down once in a Blue moon
  • Pipeline creation like Azure ADF

Likelihood to Recommend

It is cost effective when compared to other services for the same volume. We all are grown using Oracle DB, so working is much more effective than others.
