Use Cases and Deployment Scope

This is a great tool to protect against spam and malicious emails. Like every product it isn't perfect but it does a good job and creates a regular list of emails that have been blocked. I think the frequency of reports can be adjusted but we run a report every 8 hours which is good to take note of false positives but 3 reports a day is a lot to manage. Overall there are not a lot of false positives and I would say that close to 95% of the time it is correct with what it blocks.

  • Identify and block spam emails
  • Identify and block malicious emails
  • Provides a report of items that have been blocked
  • Allows users to release low threat items but items considered more risky need to be released by an admin

Cons

  • Unsure how to train it to release false positives

Return on Investment

  • PP blocks 5-10 emails per day which are spam or malicious
  • I only get a small number of emails per week which are spam
  • The only malicious emails I receive are from our internal security team which bypasses the PP threat protection

Pros

  • Spam filtering.
  • Automatic retrieval of malicious emails that have gotten through the filter but were later detected using sample data across all the organizations Proofpoint has as customers.

Cons

  • There isn't a convenient one-source portal area yet for all Proofpoint products if you utilize more than one.
  • Our servers can sometimes be slow when loading pages, after placing tickets if the speeds go back up, support doesn't really do a deep dive on what's happening.

Return on Investment

  • Less spoofing emails (Not 100% though).
  • More protection against malicious emails with the use of TRAP.
