Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Alaska Airlines uses Recurly to power both of their subscription products including customer acquisition / sign up, billing, dunning, and cancelation workflows. This allows Alaska to focus on core competencies and leverage Recurly's platform for employee ability to conduct subscriber management and product development as well as Recurly.js for customer workflows. Alaska utilizes Recurly webhooks to grant entitlements through our internal systems in real time. The embedded dashboards and data availability (via API and manual exports) allow us to identify opportunities, conduct ad hoc performance analysis, and reconcile revenues.

Pros

  • Easy UI for control of subscriptions, coupons, emails, etc. for non-tech individuals
  • Access to data
  • Communication of bugs and ability to contact support

Cons

  • Tool tips or guided workflows
  • Proactive identification and recommendation of opportunities.
  • Tracking of feature requests.

Likelihood to Recommend

Recurly is well suited for companies new to subscriptions, where it is not their core business competency, and where technical resources are limited.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Recurly to track and manage subscriptions for our product. We can actively manage account payments, update trial periods, and see who has an active account with us. With all our apis going and having some degree of error, it's a point of truth for who is actually a customer of ours for our product.

Pros

  • Easy UI
  • Adding coupons is easy
  • Nice built in reports

Cons

  • Custom built reports are a little confusing
  • Need to be trained by a colleague

Likelihood to Recommend

Recurly is great for subscription management for SAAS.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it to offer monthly subscriptions to our users who don't use our iOS app - basically web users.

Pros

  • Monthly subscription
  • Yearly subscription
  • Discounts on subscriptions

Cons

  • More marketing features
  • Churned users relationship
  • A visual path of subscribers

Likelihood to Recommend

It is great in it's core feature which is offering a subscription of your product to non app users which is exactly what we are using for. I am not sure what it is not well suited for since that's the only feature we use it for.

Easy-to-use + Intuitive for managing billing.

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We essentially use Recurly as our many database regarding billing for our customer's orders. As a customer support representative, Recurly is essential for me to assist a customer with any payment declines, possible fraudulent card activity, discount redemption troubles, etc., situations related to payment for orders. Recurly has proven to be an efficient database for my company to manage customer payments.

Pros

  • User-friendly and intuitive interface that is well-organized and easy to understand.
  • Provides information about payment declines'.
  • Loads of functions that make it easy to address payment issues.

Cons

  • Payment invoices should be re-designed such that the number shown on top reflects any credits applied to the transaction.
  • More options for filters by which transactions can be searched.
  • More insightful information about why a decline has occurred for a payment.

Likelihood to Recommend

Recurly is great for tracking transactions and reviewing payment method declines. The platform is extremely helpful when dealing with scenarios where someone believes they have been fraudulently charged for the product. Recurly allows for transaction filtering, which is very helpful when trying to find possibly fraudulent charges very easy. If expecting precise, detailed information about a card decline, Recurly would not be very helpful.

Best Tool for Subscription-based Business Model

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Recurly primarily for B2B billing functions (recurring and one-time.) It is being used by our accounting, customer service, and sales teams. A few years ago, I recommended Recurly to a fashion subscription company and they use it for their direct-to-consumer business. We like to use it because it has a great API and documentation plus the added flexibility to accommodate different customers on different billing set up. It is easy to use across all departments and compliant with PCI-DSS standards.

Pros

  • It handles 1:1 and 1:many accounts to subscription set up.
  • It has a good billing customization option (cadence, pricing, etc.)
  • Can easily set up a customer account and invoice - billing link can be generated so no need to take credit card info over chat, phone, or email.
  • Great and responsive customer support.
  • Supports multi-language.

Cons

  • It would be great to have an ability to edit the pricing, charge description, quantity after the invoice has been created. For now, you can only edit the bill-to address.
  • It would be great if it has an option not to timeout on a set amount of time. It could be pretty annoying to be asked to login and input 2-step code (if enabled) from time to time.
  • When issuing refunds, it would be nice if it wouldn't create another invoice...just update the existing one.

Likelihood to Recommend

I think it works best for scenarios where it involves recurring billing. A subscription-based business model can benefit on the platform and maximize its features. It has great customization when it comes to billing cadence, pricing, prepayment, discount options, among others. It also works perfectly with one-off charges so either way, it's a win. It has great integration with Stripe too.

Recurly has helped my business move forward!

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Only the managers have access to it. We use it for recurring subscriptions for customers worldwide. The system send reminders for those using our annual subscriptions that their plan is about to renew (at least 1-2 weeks ahead of time) which is very helpful. Their invoice has a great system of itemizing everything charged.

Pros

  • Inform customers of annual renewals about two weeks ahead of time.
  • Easy to add itemized charges to be included with the next invoice.
  • Record invoices.

Cons

  • I have multiple subscriptions and often my customers would subscribe to two or more, I wish I could group it into one invoice.
  • Ability to filter by notes - example, private mailbox numbers - rather than customer's name.

Likelihood to Recommend

Beats Chargebee and Charify - no questions asked.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Recurly is being used by a department. Our client requested its use. We use Recurly to locate our customer's account; as well as assist with adding subscriptions. Payments are also taken. Our client has embedded several links to better assist our customers with the software he sells.

Pros

  • Account location
  • I can use the last 4 digits to locate a payment if the customer does not remember the email address.
  • You can use coding to have other needs embedded such as links that can be used to assist the customer better.

Cons

  • I would like it if an agent accessed Recurly for any reason that it tracks it using the agent's name or login information.
  • The time stamp on refunds processed can be confusing as it sometimes shows midnight when we don't, as such, I would like to see a change in that.
  • Would like if the report for transitioned showed who completed the transition.

Likelihood to Recommend

Based on what I use Recurly for, I would say it is suited for contact centers that handle subscriptions and have the need to take payment. I have noticed though, that if you are not very technical, Recurly may not be for you, as coding is needed if you wish to add new things in the customer help section.

Made my life as a salesperson so much easier!

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We needed a solution in sales, as our current payment platform was limited. Recurly has been easy to use, we recieved all the support we need to troubleshoot and has made it so simple.

Pros

  • Link for customers to pay for their service
  • Provides email to the customer
  • We have access to see all activity and download receipts if we need to

Cons

  • I wish the customer had more visibility into their payments/account info
  • I would like it to be able to integrate with our ability to invoice customers, as not all want to pay with a credit card

Likelihood to Recommend

I think for us it is just a learning curve as we were using a different payment system before. And now we are using our platform to pay for products and Recurly to pay for their service. Hoping one day we use just one system, but Recurly has been great so far.

A must-have for any SaaS company!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Recurly is our billing subscription management tool that we use with most of our customers. It allows us to create customer subscriptions, collect payment details, and bill customers based on their subscription plan type.

Pros

  • Recurly provides detailed account records such as when billing for a customer is updated inside our software, renewal information, past due amounts, the list goes on and on.
  • It is easy to view information and quickly update customer billing information when needed.
  • The Support team is quick to respond whenever we run into an issue.

Cons

  • It would be great to have the ability to generate a single payment invoice that details all the past due invoices, etc. This can be tough for larger customers that may have multiple in a month.
  • It would be extremely helpful to be able to re-generate an invoice once it's been set up. Sometimes we need to update a customer's company name if it's changed and have to do it manually rather than in the system.

Likelihood to Recommend

It's a great subscription billing management software and I can see it being used by a number of companies.
