Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application is a top choice for JEE applications. Usability is not great (documentation avalilable, though), but installation and deployment are straightforward.
We currently use it as our application server for our Web application across the whole organization. It is our current web container to deploy our application.

Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform is a subscription based, open - source platform for building, deploying and hosting Java applications and services. We are using it as application server for 4 of our applications. We have total 25 Virtual Machines running JBoss EAP. We have configured domain controller, host controller and singleton Jboss instances. We are currently using it entirely on-premise but we have future plans to move it to cloud or at least hybrid cloud. The deployment is easy, resulting in lower cost and speedier deliveries.

Jboss gives you lot of flexibility around performance tuning options to better suite your application needs.
It is modular and cloud ready. This can be installed on-premise and cloud with equal ease.
I specifically love it's integration with mod_cluster. It is a smart httpd based load balancing component that listens to incoming requests on web server using httpd and then intelligently routes the request to Jboss hosts.
Cons
Jboss CLI is a great tool but we had trouble using it to get values that are displayed on Jboss GUI. It also has limitations parsing the applications.xml files and we had to use a mix of jboss-cli and linux bash commands to automate certain application administrative tasks.
JBoss doesn't really provides performance tuning recommendations. It would have been nice if it could learn from the current demand vs current settings for things like connection pool, server configurations, garbage collection etc.

It integrates well with third party components like mod_cluster and supports popular Java EE web-based frameworks such as Spring, Angular JS, jQuery Mobile, and Google Web Toolkit.
We are currently transforming a legacy mainframes system running People Soft to a more advanced ERP solution. We are using Red Hat JBoss EAP for the application server layer. We have around 40 JBoss instances running lots of JVMs for multiple applications. We have configured domain controllers, host controllers, and singleton JBoss instances. We are also using mod_cluster integration in JBoss EAP, which is an intelligent load balancer. We build, deploy and host high transaction java applications on Red Hat JBoss EAP.

MOD_CLUSTER integration. JBoss EAP integrates pretty well with mod_cluster. This is an intelligent load balancer especially useful in highly clustered environments.
Supports enterprise-grade features such as high availability clustering, distributed caching, messaging etc.
Supports deployment in on-premise, virtual and hybrid cloud environments.
Cons
Out of the box performance tuning. I have often felt the need to tune things like connection pool, server configuration, garbage collection for performance. It would be nice if JBoss were able to set some of these out of the box and require administrators to just turn on/off the feature.
Jboss-cli is a good command line utility but is still a little complex to learn. It also has a limitations query JBoss command line for certain values that you can see on the JBoss GUI interface.

Use EAP for rapid on-demand environmental scaling of our JAVA applications. This application provides excellent security and management features while allowing for scaling at a moments notice. This is the best middleware option that I know of. Great software for building and deploying HTML 5 applications that have high availability and demand needs
