Roadmunk helps small business get things done

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We're a small business but have a very large project that involves other consultants and multiple client representatives. Roadmunk allows ALL of us to see the project schedule, make adjustments, set milestones, and work together towards a successful completion. The graphics are good, and the tools are easy to use. We haven't taken advantage of all the functions Roadmunk offers, but look forward to exploring those more during the next project.

Pros

  • Sharing schedules
  • Making collaborative adjustments during the project
  • Communicating tasks

Cons

  • The color choices are a little dull

Likelihood to Recommend

It's great for our small business, especially since we work on teams that are spread out and/or need to collaborate remotely. It is a great tool to involve the client in since it looks professional and is so interactive.

Visual planning - let your customers peek behind the curtain (safely)

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Roadmunk is used at Echo360 to plan and prioritize platform software capability deliverables at the executive stakeholder level, and it is also used to present directional aspirations directly to existing customer stakeholders for feedback and transparency.

Pros

  • Allows us to easily customize swimlanes based on audience and task
  • Provides a visualization of resource load "weight" in a particular swimlane
  • Gives us a visual vocabulary to explain our agile process and its impact to customers

Cons

  • we don't use dates, only buckets. would like that choice to be a setting at the roadmap level so it doesn't need to be set for every single card
  • Roadmunk could be a great demo tool for slideware if it didn't shrink images attached to cards down to tiny thumbnails

Likelihood to Recommend

Roadmunk is super useful for us in "what if we did X" scenarios, where JIRA would be cumbersome Roadmunk is somewhat useful for us in sharing plans transparently with the rest of the organization and customers Roadmunk struggles to support scenarios where we want to show visuals of workflows associated to cards

Roadmunk In Every Product Manager's Utility Belt

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Roadmunk every quarter for:
  1. Prioritize, specify prelim reqs and communicate our quarterly product Roadmap.
  2. Plan & communicate high-level development assignment and sprint progress.
We also use Roadmunk throughout the year to maintain and communicate longer-term product roadmaps and collect & archive submitted product "ideas."

Pros

  • Ease of organization, prioritization.
  • Automated visuals, multiple views of same data. "Write once, visualize many."
  • Customer Support is responsive and very knowledgeable.

Cons

  • Product navigation is VERY inefficient for how we work. It literally takes 8 steps/clicks to "copy" a single parent/child Item from one Roadmap to another. Try it! I have asked for years for a simple "copy" function :(
  • Roadmunk has fallen into trap of building out new ancillary functionality (eg Ideas) at the expense of basic essential product usage satisfaction, eg navigation.
  • I would like to see more customization (attachments, hyperlinks) available within the item description fields. I want to draft all my Reqs using Roadmunk but as it is now we cannot.

Likelihood to Recommend

We replaced Trello with Roadmunk for our Roadmapping purposes. For the poor Product Manager and Product Team that is incessantly asked "where is the product roadmap" by Sales and Management, this is the tool for you! Easy, simple, and makes pretty pictures for those constituents.

It is less useful for full Requirements documentation. "Ideas" is OK, but too hard to get submissions from non-Roadmunk users, and clunky integration back to the primary road mapping function. Needs an improved editing environment to fully express Reqs using this tool, but it's not that far off!

Excellent for communication; enables great discussions

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We used it in prime gaming in our weekly program reviews. We discuss the status of projects (green, yellow, or red), with a particular emphasis on the yellow and red projects. We use Roadmunk to understand which aspects of those projects are running by schedule and focus the conversation on what the leadership team can do to help unblock those projects.

Pros

  • Easy to add swim lanes
  • Easy to change colors
  • Great way to visualize the milestones of a project

Cons

  • The fact that you have to add a date to everything; dates stick to people’s minds.
  • Connecting bars to milestones; unclear which to use when.
  • Collaboration isn’t great; can’t track changes, add comments, etc.

Likelihood to Recommend

Easy to visually communicate a roadmap to a senior audience. Great to focus a conversation on what the biggest problem of a project is. Also enables good discussions about dates, dependencies, buffer times, etc. Allows people with limited background knowledge to ask good questions. Diagrams can range from very simple to very complicated.

A solid product that could grow its enterprise features

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We used Roadmunk as a roadmap tool for the product group to create and share it roadmaps between cross-functional development and operations teams as well as for generating views for the operational leadership teams within the company.

Pros

  • Easy visualization
  • Quickly add items

Cons

  • Lacked ability to filter labels between projects on enterprise accounts

Likelihood to Recommend

For small organizations and small projects its a good solution for road mapping.

Roadmapping with Roadmunk

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Roadmunk was specifically used within the Product Management department to solve a particular problem we were having in synching individual roadmaps with a collective department roadmap that could be shared with the entire organization. Roadmunk proved adaptable enough that it allowed for individual PMs to manage their product roadmap while making it easy enough for the department head to share a complete look of the department's work with the C-level suite.

Pros

  • Collaboration – Roadmunk makes it very easy to work and edit within a team structure.
  • User Experience – The usability of the product made it quite easy for the entirety of the team to hit the ground running (i.e. very little training was required).
  • Rollups – Each product line and therefore each product owner could easily focus on their particular roadmap without having to sort through the master roadmap making it highly efficient, while at the same time making it quite easy to pull all updates into one high-level document.

Cons

  • Simplicity – This is both a blessing and a curse for Roadmunk. On one hand, it is easy enough for anyone to use, on the other, it misses quite a bit of the nuance associated with individual tasks due to its cookie-cutter inputs.
  • Design – This layout gets the job done, but there is nothing flashy about what it does.

Likelihood to Recommend

If there are not going to be a lot of eyeballs (particularly eyeballs belonging to senior leadership) looking at the work product, Roadmunk is an excellent tool that allows small teams to easily maintain individual roadmaps that are capable of being rolled up into larger, more comprehensive departmental works. Additionally, Roadmunk does not require a lot of ramp-up time before it starts to give you a return on your investment, literally there is no PM that would have trouble using the product.

If it falls short anywhere, it is that there is no style to go along with the considerable substance. In viewing the work in shared settings or in a cross-functional meeting, the work product can tend to look a bit dated.

Roadmunk rocks at CARFAX!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Roadmunk across the enterprise and with multiple business functions (project management, product management, technical leadership, strategic planning) - from the delivery teams up to the C-suite - across the globe. As an all-agile organization, we don’t create 1000-line project schedules and pin them to the wall; we use Roadmunk to convey what is happening around/between sprints and across dependent teams for work that is in flight, as well as major phases expected to follow. Similarly, we do product and portfolio planning in Roadmunk, which is particularly helpful given the dynamic market and inter-dependent product ecosystem we work in. Real-time, browser-based access to all of this information via Roadmunk really empowers and informs our teams.

Pros

  • Really engaging dynamic visual depictions; love that the legend is customizable.
  • Lots of flexibility with metadata tagging...enables us to tie in various strategic elements and other metrics, flags, etc.
  • Simple, yet effective UI that allows users to jump in and immediately be successful.

Cons

  • Initial limitation to Chrome as sole browser was challenging.
  • No iPad or other app available or plans to build one that I know of.
  • Would love to have a broader sets of integrations to other common corporate tools available.

Likelihood to Recommend

Well-suited: distributed workforce, progressive (as opposed to traditional) business processes / work management tool environment.
Less appropriate: where roadmaps need to be directly tied to an agile tool (i.e., JIRA) or a time reporting or financial system.

Easy and efficient way to create and manage roadmaps!

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Roadmunk helps us to create and manage product roadmaps that are shared across the business. We can easily communicate with the stakeholders and work with them in order to accomplish business goals and meet deadlines. At the same time Roadmunk is really useful when it comes to working with developers and enables us to visualize projects and show them the big picture.

Pros

  • Beautiful visualization of product roadmaps
  • Connecting projects across the whole organization
  • Great UX
  • Multiple views and filters catering to different needs

Cons

  • The biggest issue with Roadmunk is that it doesn't allow setting up sprints (2 weeks period of time) that are essential in dealing with Agile
  • Multiple milestones and projects can visually overlap and make the roadmap difficult to read

Likelihood to Recommend

Roadmunk is a great tool for Product Managers and Project Manager that allows an easy and pleasant way of creating roadmaps. It's perfect for people who have to communicate with stakeholders and show project progress to others. It's perfect for teams using JIRA as it allows a simple integration with the system.
