Sage 100 Contractor is awesome!!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Sage 100 Contractor for accounting, project management, purchasing, and payroll. We love that it does all of that and more in one easy-to-use program with great support.

Further, Sage 100 Contractor is built on SQL, allowing custom connections and reporting, enabling us to maximize our utilization by creating apps catering to our unique needs.

Pros

  • Payroll
  • Project Management
  • Purchasing (with added customization)
  • Support
  • Reporting

Cons

  • Progress Billing (3-7 Menu) needs a complete overhaul. It is missing modern functionality, connections to 3rd party billing platforms like Textura and Procore, and it has minor bugs that we have to contact support for because there are no workarounds.
  • Payroll is also somewhat anchored in the past. Payroll records are not calculated automatically; meaning that extra steps are needed in order to process payroll. These extra steps make troubleshooting slow and add waste to the DB because a new records are needed in order to view different payroll scenarios, particularly when processing bonus and employee reimbursements.
  • Purchasing (within both Estimating and PM) and project management both could use more integration with each other. For instance, change orders do not support database parts from purchasing which would help when creating a CO budget within Sage 100 Contractor. Purchasing is missing the functionality of importing a vendor price list and assigning both price and the vendor's part number to parts within Sage 100 Contractor. This has to be done manually or via a custom SQL import script.

Return on Investment

  • Through the custom reporting tool, we have been able to give our PM team reporting that allows them to view up to date costs along with budget projections and other relevant information leading to improved invoicing and reduced WIP liability.
  • Sage 100 Contractor is a lot more streamlined and easy to teach than previous ERPs leading to both employee retention and reduced difficulty in attracting talent.

Pros

  • Reports
  • Payroll
  • Invoicing

Cons

  • Some of the tax calculations, payroll steps had to be sorted out
  • System glitches - sometimes boots you out of the system

Return on Investment

  • Our payroll process is more time consuming now versus with previous vendor

Review of Sage 100 Contractor...

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Sage 100 Contractor used on a daily basis. I love the support they provide. Turnaround time is quite short. I have one rep that I e-mail and she usually responds within 24 hours. I have not had very many issues that could not be fixed right away. The rep that we had helped us through an upgrade and fixed little issues right away. These little issues were not very significant. The representative also gave recommendations on speeding up our system by archiving files that had not been archived since the program was installed. The representative looked around and suggested ways to streamline processes which I was not aware of.

Pros

  • Reports are easy to read.
  • Recurring Journal Entries are easy to set up.
  • Bank Reconciliations are clear and concise.

Cons

  • Reports are not always easy to export to Excel worksheets.
  • Reports sometimes do not fit all on one pages...columns too wide.
