We use Sophos Email to protect our organization from SPAM, malware, and other malicious email-borne activity. We use it to provide global inbound and outbound email policies, as well as staff self-service email encryption of sensitive data. We also use impersonation protection for our Executive and Finance identities.
Pros
Security and compliance
Ease of configuration
Integration with other Sophos products via 1 common management plane
Cons
UI can be "busy" sometimes
Global block/allow lists sometimes don't work as expected
Likelihood to Recommend
It is well-suited to protect organizations of all sizes from email-borne threats and for regulated organizations where email compliance/standards are important. Not well suited to organizations without knowledgeable IT support in email protocols/security. It would be challenging for them to set up/configure properly. If doing so, I recommend they engage with a partner or Sophos directly for professional services.

We use Sophos email as a way to protect and filter our staff's email boxes from all the junk and malicious emails that arrive daily. The way it integrates into our Sophos Central web portal is highly efficient for anyone on the IT Team to manage users, quarantined emails, filters, DLP policy, etc. And the new on-demand sandbox feature is one of the coolest things I have seen this year! I highly recommend this solution for anyone looking for a complete and reliable email security product that will make you rest easy at night.
Pros
A clear easy to navigate and understand interface
Advanced drill down options for investigating
The instant very fast sandbox feature to test those email links and attachments
Cons
We have just started using the updated web GUI
So we do not see any areas for improvement yet
But with my team using this more and more we might find some

The Sophos email solution is a good fit for my organization which is a mid-size resort with 200 users. Sophos email has revealed unwanted emails that were getting through our built in Microsoft email security scanning and policies so having this extra layer was a no brainier. With that we were able to focus on the bad stuff and even tweak our products with this information from Sophos email.
We use Sophos Email protection to help us defend our users against the multitude of threats that are out in the modern world. Though we educate our users about the dangers and threats, we cannot rely on education alone. Sophos' email security options give our company peace of mind when it comes to email security.
Pros
The user interface is great!
The reliability is top notch!
My end users really appreciate the ease of use when it comes to warnings and quarantined items.
Cons
I would love to see tips integrated into the user interface from the management side to allow for easier dissection of email headers. This would allow lower level admins that may work at smaller companies to better understand the information presented.

I strongly believe that if you are looking for a product that does what it says on the box and has the capacity to keep your company safe, you should look at Sophos. They have consistently been at the top of their game and continue to provide a product that meets the ever-changing needs of the threat landscape.

Sophos Email is our main spam filter. This product does a great job keeping our users and site protected from Email attacks. It reduces the total spam we get everyday and I feel confident that it is preventing phishing attacks.
Pros
Easy to Manage
Keeps Spam to a minimum
Helps prevent phishing attacks through email.
Cons
Portal is confusing
Some emails get through still
Quarantine email is not always functional
Likelihood to Recommend
Sophos email along with training will provide a great perimeter defense for your email system. It is not a perfect system but it does a really good job at keeping users safe. The console takes a little bit of time to get use to but once you are comfortable with it, it is a very powerful tool.

We use it for email filtering, DLP and email encryption.
Pros
Blocking specified file types as attachments
Allowing users to release quarantined emails
They are adding new features at a decent pace
Cons
Portal encryption. Outside users are not able to reply to everyone on the email chain. They can only reply to the person who sent the email.
You cannot control which mailboxes are licensed.
Email filtering. A lot of spam emails and spoofed emails tend to get through. This has gotten better recently with a slider that allows you to specify how aggressive the system is.
Likelihood to Recommend
The price point for this solution is attractive and they are improving it. However, I would be hesitant to recommend it at this time. We have been using this solution for about 2 and half years and for most of that time we have not been overly impressed with it. As I mentioned they are making noticeable improvements.
Sophos Central is currently deployed for endpoint protection, phishing training, and as an email gateway solution for filtering inbound and outbound emails. This product pre-dates my time with our current company but the experience and product performance has been very poor.
Pros
Nothing
Cons
Rules processing does not perform impersonation filtering properly. For example, if the email gets classified as spam the impersonation rule is not processed against it. This means your users will release these quarantined emails to their inboxes. Impersonation rules should be a top-level rule.
The product boasts it has AI and advanced processing but regularly lets credential harvesting emails through constantly. URL filtering does not block them and when they are reported it takes up to an hour to block the malicious URL in the filtering. This is too slow since users typically are clicking on these links in emails within minutes
Support is nonchalant with no sense of urgency. They don't follow simple requests for contact hours and will reach out to you hours after your day has ended. Support engineers agree with you that the product fails to meet standards and think this is an ok thing.
Emails will get rejected by unknown filters and require research to be done against logs by Sophos support. This is absurd, if an email is blocked it should not require a support ticket for investigating
The processing of rules is inconsistent. The same email from the same email address and same IP address is classified as SPAM for some and allowed for others
Likelihood to Recommend
Sophos email gateway is not suitable as an email gateway product. Support is lackluster, the product is inconsistent in how it handles emails and allows far more malicious emails to be delivered than it should. I would not recommend this product to anyone. We are considering legal action against Sophos for failure to deliver a warrantable product as it relates to the email gateway specifically.

We use Sophos Email as our main Antispam, which is very useful to us and stops emails from bad origin, additionally, it gives us an alert when it does not let an email pass due to security.
Pros
Stops emails of dubious origin
Alerts on held emails
Has quarantine
Cons
Cloud-based solution
Integration with Synchronized Security
Likelihood to Recommend
I recommend Sophos Email, as it does not need a physical server, but is based on the cloud, the administration is simple and easy to use, the tool is very good and helps to identify malicious emails.
We have Sophos Email protecting the entire company. This product helps us to filter malicious emails and create very specific rules. Also, the integrated DLP has allowed us to have compliance with regulations such as PCI-DSS. The cloud console allows great flexibility when managing and making agile changes that the business requires.
Pros
The integration of the mail with the Data Leak Prevention module is really easy, convenient and timely.
The fact of combining typical forms of protection, such as blacklists, sender's reputation with advanced machine learning capabilities, with static content analysis and execution of attached files, allows us to trust the product more and more.
The cloud console allows you to have all the email information at the reach of a cell phone or tablet, allowing administration in a simple way and from anywhere.
Cons
Sometimes the spam email is suddenly eliminated, without going to a quarantine, this prevents an administrator from reviewing and being the one who has the last word on the good or bad of the email.
Likelihood to Recommend
This email protection product can help you especially when you have an email service, such as office 365 or Google. I believe this because we managed to separate email management from antispam management.
Although it is applicable when you have mail on premises, I think it makes more sense to use a local tool there. This will allow you to receive onpremise mail from the start.

All organizations have email filtering and product protection..We have 200 mailboxes in 365 and some on-premise as well.
Pros
Ease of use and management for admins
Flexible policies
Malware and virus screening
Cons
Better support for internal emails (within our domain)
Notifications for quarantined messages
Likelihood to Recommend
Good product for organizations with small IT teams. Very easy deployment and management for more complex solutions. We are missing some ability to maintain filtering policies with specific rules
