I use Squarespace primarily for DNS services and domain name registration. I am a researcher at a university, and I need a DNS registrar service for obtaining domain names as well as a nameserver service for modifying DNS records for experiments. I also use it to host my own personal research website.

Pros

Cons

DNS record setting is somewhat constrained. Not all record types are supported, and the input to the record contents is limited. This makes it hard to recommend for novel DNS usages.
Slow and unhelpful customer service.
Certain domain names are blocked for registration, with little explanation as to why they cannot be bought

I do not like the upgrade in the editing software. I regret updating any of my pages to the fluid editor and won't update any of my pages that are still in the old editing style

Squarespace is a great platform if you are an inexperienced web designer and would like to build an aesthetically pleasing website. It is perfect for hosting a blog. I also use it to integrate with acuity scheduling, which has worked very well for me. I find it easy to upload and sell my digital products as well.

Our social media and marketing manager integrates with this system every day and finds it very easy to navigate and offers a wide level of services and options for us to utilise. There are numerous functionalities available and also is easy to use for the team that only interact with it on a less frequent basis

We have some events and conferences that are dotted throughout our calendar year. Squarespace offers the option of adding these products to the website and the function to then hide. This offers great flexibility and is less labour intensive and more time efficient. Also the option to build reports based around our individual products is really helpful in our reporting for specific products or for quarterly results

My organization uses Squarespace for a few tasks: purchasing website domains and developing websites for other companies. We have created multiple websites in a variety of industries using Squarespace. We use this to typically build smaller micro-sites rather than full-blown websites as we will normally want that to be developed on Wordpress.

Training user-base in making sure smaller businesses can be optimized for SEO.
AI Text generation for making content optimized for their site.
Video series that could train someone to be able to use the platform to make people who are regular business owners become web-savy

I would suggest Squarespace to anyone who owns a small business and wants to build a website. Squarespace is easy to use and edit. However, unless you are trained in best practices, oftentimes, sites will not get high organic rankings as the platform will not teach their customers best practices.

Conversion from their older platform to their newer platform is non-existent. We had to rebuild our website from scratch to take advantage of new features
The blog section on the new platform uses the functionality of the old platform

Our team uses Squarespace predominantly to create a variety of landing and squeeze pages for marketing messaging and engagement. We use different forms of advertising to drive people to these pages and manage everything with UTM codes and sort through the data with Squarespace's built-in analytics and also incorporate Google Analytics.

Pros

Quick creation of pages through a drag-and-drop interface
Copying of pages to quickly duplicate ideas and themes
Creation of online forms with storage on Squarespace AND 3rd party products like Google Drive.
Inclusion of video very easily into a page to enhance user experience

Cons

If a number of folders/containers are created for themed pages, sometimes the drag/drop functionality of putting new pages in order of dragging them into a container does not work.
Sometimes the style/theme functionality limits the potential to do things 'outside the box'
Occasionally, when using 3rd party connectivity for certain storage tasks, the connection will be lost and the data does not get stored.

Likelihood to Recommend

Squarespace is one of the best solutions out there for building a website or web experience that looks good, has great functionality and is cost-effective, even for smaller businesses. Although most people in marketing will find most of the elements intuitive, if the creator is struggling with any of the functionality, there are many, many support options and other users who can offer assistance.

Small business websites are great for Squarespace. They are easy to set up without prior experience, and you can get started very quickly and iterate later. For any larger corporation or business/organization needing a site tied to a CRM, I would not recommend Squarespace.

We launch websites faster with Squarespace for new events and services, allowing a modern, functional design with integrated modules. For innovation events, we embed other tools like the Miro whiteboard for ideation and Notion timelines for project tracking. I love that I can easily manage all my websites and domains in Squarespace and add collaborators securely.

Our simple public web is designed and hosted on Squarespace. This site is a simple overview of our business for B2B awareness of our purpose and mission. We use a plug-in for language translation, the built-in forms feature for basic customer enquiries, and a protected page for an electronic non-disclosure agreement (in addition to adobe forms).

We use Squarespace to build quick and accessible websites for product information. It is super simple to quickly get basic "showcase" websites up and running so we can design and edit them on the fly. We can even change the formatting of the design (content and picture layout) with a simple click. It allows us to produce pages quickly and make future changes rapidly.

We've found Squarespace perfect for quick, well-designed websites that you can literally design and launch in a day. However, if you want to get more complex with your website, including custom backend integrations or code, Squarespace presents a bit more of a challenge when it comes to what they will allow you to modify on their platform (especially using third-party integration apps).
