Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Vista as our construction company's ERP. Vista helps us with job costs and compares current and past jobs. It also allows us to manage our material and aggregate sales and inventory. We still have some fine-tuning to do with the software, but it has functioned as expected.

Pros

  • Gives us real time inventory updates when used properly.
  • Allows for integration between other software's.
  • Good customer support.

Cons

  • Their payroll module is terribly slow and very clunky.
  • Job costing parameters are very strict and limited.
  • Each module interface has too many forms and screens.
  • There is too much flexibility regarding where to put information into the system. There isn't one place to do anything, which creates confusion for staff.

Return on Investment

  • So far it has made our data input take longer than previous ERP.
  • No change to productivity within the company.
  • So far it has cost more than it has saved.

Usability

Vista Is Great!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Vista mainly for accounting, our whole organization inputs data but the accounting department are the #1 users in our company. It keeps our project managers on-time and on-budget for our projects by displaying any issues before they become huge problems. Reports and dashboards keep us office folks up-to-date on what's happening in the field.

Pros

  • Fully customizable, it can do anything you want and be tailored to your business.
  • Real-time data.
  • Detailed data, you can see where every penny is going.

Cons

  • Takes a lot of time and effort to set up to get running.
  • Online answers can be a little difficult to find for the average user.
  • The non-computer person will need a LOT of training to use Vista.
  • There are quite a few bugs we run into but they are generally fixed on following releases.

Return on Investment

  • Monthly WIP meetings with Vista reporting have been a lifesaver for our company, we know immediately if something on a project needs to be fixed.
  • Time-saving imports have let us use that time somewhere more productive.
  • With custom reporting that we can do ourselves, audits are not a huge deal anymore.
