Use Cases and Deployment Scope

At our small software company, we have a number of remote workers in the US, as well as abroad. We use WatchGuard AuthPoint to secure our IKEv2 VPN - remote users must use the WatchGuard AuthPoint mobile app to allow the VPN to connect. This is just one of our security layers, we use other 2FA to control logins, etc.

Pros

Speed of notification
Stable connection
Mobile app has minimal footprint
Portal is easy to navigate

Cons

Email support is SLOW unless I want to allow a stranger to access my production firewall. That is never allowed here, so our hands are tied in terms of being able to get support in less than 48 hours.
Again, support takes far too long because you refuse to employ any staff that works in US time zones during normal business hours.
There has to be another option besides: 1) you take full control of my systems or 2) I wait on SLOW email support that isn't that great.

Likelihood to Recommend

While I cannot speak of the functionalities that we do not use, the 2nd factor authentication has been great. It's actually secure, I can control it all remotely, users don't mind the extra step, and management feels more at ease knowing that we have full access control. The VPN for remote connections is fast and stable, it stays connected during network oddities and has plenty of bandwidth.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use WatchGuard AuthPoint to act as the MFA tool for our business which allows our users who login to login securely and not have to worry about any security lapses that could potentially be very damaging to our business. The App is very straight forward and the pricing is just right.

I think it is very well suited for small to medium business. We are only a staff of 10 but now we use it for our remote technicians so they can login to our servers and perform remote sessions. We fell secure with this and not as exposed as using basic RDS sessions

We use AuthPoint together with our WatchGuard firewall to secure our remote workers via 2 factor push notifications to their mobile devices when attempting to login to the VPN from a remote location.

Pros

Cons

Documentation is lacking for more complicated setups, for example integrating into Windows AD Radius backed VPNs
Generally configuration can be time consuming as it is not always clear where settings are, cloud or local

AuthPoint is great if you are already in the ecosystem, I cannot see how this would benefit if you are not already using a WatchGuard firewall or other service they provide. Most competitors have their equivalent products so mixing these up will likely lead to issues.

We use it with some clients for M365 and OWA. Some clients have limited company phones and don't want the employees to have to use their own phones for holding Microsoft Authenticator. So, they have a hybrid solution with soft tokens on company phones and hard tokens for everyone else.

If someone just wants a replacement for Microsoft Authenticator, it's doesn't make sense. Microsoft Authenticator is just simple for M365. However, if someone wants an alternative where they don't want to use a soft token on employees' personal phones, then WatchGuard AuthPoint has the answer with a hard token solution. It also works well securing vpn's.

We use AuthPoint as a 2FA security measure for all users with a laptop. Some users work from home, and some typically work from a branch office but have the option to work remotely. We needed a way to comply with security regulations that was low hassle but would also fit our business needs.

Pros

App push notifications are very consistent and easy to approve.
Sending new tokens to users when they get a new phone is simple.
Whitelisting branch offices.

Cons

Managing users with the web interface could be more intuitive.

It is well suited to businesses with a mix of employees who work in the office and remotely. You can view how often they log in with the device. The authenticator app allows you to log in while the device is offline. I have been using AuthPoint with my business for 6 years and am happy.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use WatchGuard AuthPoint to enforce MFA on all of our VPN connections to our WatchGuard AuthPoint device on-site. This allows all of our users to authenticate a second time, which increases our security posture while enabling us to receive our Cybersecurity insurance at a reduced rate.

Easy LDAP connection
Easy user setup, and syncing with our on-site AD
The push notifications work well with the Authpoint app, no issues at this point

Cons

Acquiring licenses can be a little odd, trying to find a reseller that will sell them in the way that I want

At this point we have only used WatchGuard AuthPoint for our 2FA enforcement, but it works well and was easy to set up with the guides provided by Watchguard. We haven't branched out past this usage at this point, but the Watchguard Cloud interface is intuitive in setting up the application.
