Western Digital SSD - cost effective upgrade for your workstation or laptop

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Western Digital SSDs (Solid-state drives) have many advantages over hard disk drives (HDDs), including faster speeds, lower energy consumption, and greater durability.

By upgrading our workstations with Western Digital SSD it has increased the performance without having to upgrade the computer itself.

Pros

  • Faster read / write times
  • More durable, no moving components
  • Better battery life with laptops due to the decrease in power consumption over a HDD

Cons

  • Price point. The prices are coming down but still more expensive than HDD
  • More Storage space would be nice.

Likelihood to Recommend

They are great for workstatsion and laptops. However, I don't know if I would use the drives in a NAS, or in some servers.

DON'T BUY PRODUCTS FROM WESTERN DIGITAL

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I bought their new SanDisk Extreme 1TB Portable NVMe SSD, USB-C, up to 1050MB/s Read and 1000MB/s Write Speed from amazon for over £130. In the beginning it worked but was slower than was supposed to be. I used it 2 or 3 times. Now after months of not using it it is not detected by two different PCs, laptop, surface tablets and galaxy phone. I've tried many cables including provided by amazon. Contacted WD but they make everything very difficult. No wonder they have so many negative reviews. How can you make a disk that works only few times?!!! Will try to return/replace and continue this review asap.

Cons

  • speed
  • durability
  • honesty

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

SSD is helpful to get better performance and with Western Digital, it has better performance in IOPS comparing other vendors. Moreover, it gives more features from the driver's point of view as it helps to create backup partitions properly and works for both Windows/MAC environments parallelly.

Pros

  • Helps to work in both Windows/MAC environment
  • Have tool that helps to use the hard disk as backup recovery points
  • Drivers for WD gives better control than other vendors
  • Not much of heating issues

Cons

  • Not much
  • Pricing can be reduced ;)

Likelihood to Recommend

For use in both Windows and Mac OS, it was well suited by default. Other hardware doesn't really allow multi os file system access.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have several Western Digital SSD drives used internally in our ERP and database servers. The SSD proved to be very fast, reliable, and with excellent durability. The performance has improved a lot compared to other HDDs we have used.

Pros

  • Improved response time of complex, high-load systems.
  • Optimized write speed
  • Reliable and market leading brand SSD and high durability and less chance of failure.

Cons

  • It's more expensive than an HDD, but it's worth it by a lot.
  • There is less chance of data recovery.

Likelihood to Recommend

Western Digital SSD has provided more security, performance, scalability, speed of backup, restoration, and synchronization of data from our systems. It has efficient technical support and a very good customer service time with hardware replacement. I would recommend them to all people, from smaller to larger companies to be replace other HDD or SSD on the market.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have replaced all the traditional disks to SSD disks. The main problem that we had was the traditional disks after some years presents some problems and with this problem the servers and computers of the users were affected causing down times in the operation, impacting directly to the business core of the company.

Pros

  • Fast I/O
  • Secure
  • No support needed
  • Long live

Cons

  • Disks of user's computers
  • Servers
  • External Storage

Likelihood to Recommend

We started saving the information of the user's computers on external storage SSD (portable), we found the solution with the computers changing the original disks to SSD, then we checked that the new disks never fail and bought a simple n traditional NAS of Western Digital with SSD disks, we achieved no problems with the data, and then we made the decision of invest on change the disks of the servers.

Excellent product for quick, easy, transportable storage

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Western Digital SSD is used as a fast and easy-to-use storage medium for large amounts of data that is rarely accessed. Minimal configuration is required. Stability is high and transportability is painless. Read and write access is fairly quick. Data corruption issues are rare but are also easily fixed with minimal downtime.

Pros

  • Fast access to data (read and write).
  • Easy to connect without much extra software (overhead).

Cons

  • Speed could be improved.
  • Online corruption checking and correction during read/write could be improved.

Likelihood to Recommend

Anytime large amounts of data are needed for very quick access and standup, (no need to configure any new infrastructure like servers) a western digital SSD fits the bill. If guaranteed uptime with zero corruption is required, Western Digital SSD might not be the best fit. While corruption is very rare, it does happen and will take a little bit of time to correct.
