I am a consultant for a digital marketing agency. We partner with very small SMBs (usually 5-50 employees) and help them reach local customers. Yext is an *irreplaceable* tool for accomplishing this. Specifically the photo upload and business hours edit functions: update it in one portal, hit publish, and those hours or those photos are hitting dozens of websites at once. Clutch.

Publishing feature is sometimes wonky when editing businesses with suite #s.
Scan tool (use for sales purposes) often shows "directory not available" for major directories like Waze, Bing, and Facebook.

Likelihood to Recommend

Yext is an essential tool for any SMB that is seeking to reach a local audience. ANY time one of my clients cancels services with my agency I recommend they purchase a Yext annual license. (I'm pretty sure most ignore this advice, but I believe it is the right thing to recommend.)

Yext is way less essential (or perhaps even counterproductive) for an SMB seeking a national audience (such as an ecommerce or elearning business) and of course it is not meant for national/multinational corporations with national/multinational reach.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Yext to manage our web listings across multiple platforms. Trying to manage all of the web listings individually is a major challenge. With Yext, we have the ability to manage these listing in one location. When we relocate one of our branches and need to update the physical address, we simply update the address in Yext, and the address change is pushed to the other platforms.

Cons

Making updates on the Google Business profiles through Yext seems challenging. I manage the Google Business updates directly on that platform and disable the push notifications for that service in Yext.

Likelihood to Recommend

We have multiple branch locations throughout our market area. It's very challenging to manage the web listings for each location, with a large volume of listings across numerous platforms for each of those locations. Yext significantly reduces the workload by allowing me to make a single update and Yext automatically pushes the notifications across the other platforms.

We love using Yext to keep all of our business listings up to date across all platforms. Yext pushes to more search engines than we would ever be able to get to manually and makes sure our information is current and accurate. The platform itself is also incredibly easy to use. Simply put, it makes our job easier!

Letting us easily identify a problem if there is one.

Cons

Faster data pulling for reporting.

It has been very well suited for every business listing we have created. We love it for restaurants to easily showcase menu items, reservations, hours of operation etc. It seems to be less appropriate for Higher Ed clients, as Google tends to push their own listings and showcase the listing differently than other businesses and with less information than what we input.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Yext is used by our organization for both our own purposes, but we are also a reseller. It is recommended with every client we work with to address their directory listing inconsistencies and help with their SEO. We have some clients for which we also monitor reviews but the primary purpose is listing cleanup, particularly for businesses that have moved or changed names/ownership.

Pros

Updating directory listings in one fell swoop
Allows for a lot of data for each listing to be entered
Duplicate suppression is a very handy tool

Cons

Duplicate suppression does not always take hold and there is often little recourse

Likelihood to Recommend

Yext is appropriate for any business that has a brick and mortar shop, but is also useful for contractors/other businesses that serve a radius. Any business that has moved, changed phone numbers or names, or has any information to update ever can benefit from this service.

We track client reviews. With a few clients, we use Yext code on their website to show off their reviews and allow for their clients to leave reviews on their site. We constantly update info from office hours to events to new menus.

It is well suited for most businesses, but to get the full benefit, it requires extensive study. For example, it is easy enough to load their knowledge graph, the main place where client data is stored. Some of the purposes of the field are not clear. Samples and short explanations would be helpful.

Our marketing department brought on Yext to help with implementing location pages (to drive more local traffic across the US) and increasing the functionality of our search tool. They helped build out our FAQs and target queries for future content creation (pages, resources, and blogs).

Turnaround time for development of listing/location pages is too long (4-6 weeks for a single entity)

Yext is a great addition to any marketing team, especially where you have a website that has a lot of users searching for content. They can quickly identify areas for improvement to increase traffic or create a better user experience. We love the Answers tool and FAQs, as it has reduced calls and emails (users now find the answers they need online). Location pages have increased our footprint in local markets, as well. The only issue we have is with communication and turnaround time. Over the last few months, projects that used to take 5-7 business days have taken over 2 months to complete, and we had to continually reach out for status updates. We're hoping this is just a temporary issue since their previous work has been stellar.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Yext is used by our marketing department for the listings management of our hotels. The primary purpose of Yext at our organization is to scale listings management across major publishers/directories. Secondary purposes include review visibility, GMB Q&A visibility, and local analytics.

In addition to Yext we also do manual citation building, but Yext is a cost and resource-saving solution to large scale listings management for our organization.

For a large-scale enterprise, I would highly recommend Yext as a listings management vendor. I would still recommend it for a small to medium-sized business depending on their competence/familiarity with listings management as they may be able to handle it themselves or work with a Yext competitor.

It also highly depends on the industry and location of the business. Yext is great for B2C brick-and-mortar businesses with lots of locations physically located in the United States. Yext does not provide as good of coverage for countries outside of the US. Yext also does not provide as much support for some industries, so I would recommend a business to review which publishers/directories are most important for their business and check whether or not these are covered by Yext. Ultimately Yext will still cover most major publishers/directories that are relevant from an SEO point of view.

Yext was a partner and used TimeTrade Scheduling links on Yext Pages to allow people to book appointments from their webpages. In addition to the scheduling functionality, TimeTrade was featured on the Yext app directory. TimeTrade location data could be synced with Yext and vice versa. Our customers used TimeTrade and Yext together. Our business development team had licenses and would play around with the software in demoes to show to clients.

Pros

Put a lot of data across multiple channels
Keep data up to date especially at large retailers and bank by allowing each location to modify hours etc.
Create customization amongst individual franchises and locations

Cons

It's a sophisticated tool. I didn't use it enough to experience big issues. I primarily resold it.

Likelihood to Recommend

Yext is extremely well suited for large companies with many locations. Big banks, retailers, and restaurant chains should absolutely be utilizing Yext in order to help each location modify their hours and keep their information up to date.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Yext to ensure that our clients have accurate, up-to-date listings and reviews across Google, Yelp, and about 72 other platforms. We've found it most useful for clients at the franchise level, because their locations need a dedicated tool for accuracy, but our smaller clients have also seen gains from Yext. For those franchise clients, Yext can automatically update absolutely every listing for absolutely every location, roll out brand-wide or store or region-specific promotions, and even update on specific personnel in the medical and legal fields. It's kind of insane how powerful it is!

Pros

Broad updates fast - I don't have to mess with specific listings at all.
Duplicate suppression - A definitive information source for our clients' customers.
Powerful analytics - We can show accurate ROI and estimated conversions very easily.

Cons

Web scraper - Clients don't want to do data entry, and this is the fastest way to grab info from some of them. It could be a bit more robust, to be honest.
Linked entities - Useful for letting customers know, for example, where a certain medical professional will be on a certain day of the week. Not impossible to use, but it feels like it could be easier.
Dark mode - The UI is bright white, and I'd like something easier on the eyes.

Likelihood to Recommend

Yext is great for bigger clients. If your client has a franchise of any kind, or even multiple locations, that's an ideal use case. For smaller clients, with one location that doesn't change a lot, Yext isn't as viable, and the effort to update maybe ten or fifteen listings would be worth it.
