Carbonite EndpointVeeam Backup for AWS
Considered Both Products
Carbonite Endpoint
Chose Carbonite Endpoint
Carbonite is way more basic but is easy to use. It is for backing up files where at Veeam is for a who system backup which you can restore to a different platform. If our use case we only needed to backup end users files and Carbonite cost much less which was what we needed …
Chose Carbonite Endpoint
Carbonite Endpoint 360 definitely has a solid footing in the market. Barracuda Essentials is a more comprehensive solution offering many additional features and complementing services including archiving and email Antispam and encryption. Proofpoint is very similar to both …
Chose Carbonite Endpoint
As far as I am aware other systems were evaluated but I wasn't involved in that.
Chose Carbonite Endpoint
We chose Carbonite after reading the reviews and hearing from other users on how excellent it was and how helpful the customer service is.
Chose Carbonite Endpoint
To be honest, Unitrends is the best solution that we found, tested and procured and are very happy with it. But if you don't have 40K to spend on a backup solution then Carbonite is the way to go especially if you spring the additional $1200 and procure their appliance that you …
Chose Carbonite Endpoint
We're presently looking to expand our endpoint protection. Carbonite Endpoint is the data integrity aspect of this. We've also used Symantec Endpoint Protection, but that focuses primarily on virus and threat mitigation at the endpoints—not dating integrity. So while both …
Chose Carbonite Endpoint
Stacks very well against competitors and excels in what it does.
Chose Carbonite Endpoint
Carbonite is fast and easy to configure compared to other platforms. It's a small footprint and runs unnoticed in the background without usurping resources on the local machine. Backup Exec is a massive application and requires far more setup and configuration. Acronis, while …
Chose Carbonite Endpoint
The two main alternatives we have also used are Google Dive and Microsoft 365. While both of them can be used for backing up your office documents (spreadsheets and docs), they aren't very good at backing up other stuff. Also, you cannot automate complete system backups with …
Chose Carbonite Endpoint
Mozy has now been purchased by Carbonite, but the cost structure was much higher than Carbonite.
Chose Carbonite Endpoint
We have also used Mozy Pro and DropBox. They are all pretty similar in functionality/features of backing up data (not system state or databases as I don't think any of the 3 are well suited for that). To me, it comes down to personal preference and choosing a product that is …
Chose Carbonite Endpoint
I think this solution is decent, and works well enough for most businesses. I find their lack of alerts to be very troublesome - finding out you can't restore a file because the back did not run for two days is not a conversation I ever need to have again with the owner of the …
Chose Carbonite Endpoint
Selected Carbonite because it's cheaper and offers unlimited storage. You do have to pay more if you want to be able to backup external drives, but still worth it. They can't be beat when it comes to price for offsite storage. The support is really good as well. It's nice …
Chose Carbonite Endpoint
Carbonite focuses on backup. It has one objective and it does it well. Other applications do so many things.
Chose Carbonite Endpoint
Overall, Carbonite is a better product, with a more intuitive interface and easier to use. The price was comparable, but I tried Carbonite again, and was able to install it correctly on my next computer.
Chose Carbonite Endpoint
My mind pretty much was made up to use Carbonite since I had been using the personal computer backup version. But I did look Acronis due to a business associate stating it may meet my needs, after talking with a sales person it was found it had a large learning curve.
Chose Carbonite Endpoint
Carbonite was a no brainer. We never really considered anyone else because Carbonite is reputable and I pushed hard for this software after using it with different clients in previous positions. I have not used competitor products as of yet but I have not found a reason to …
Chose Carbonite Endpoint
Carbonite was easier to use but less robust.
Chose Carbonite Endpoint
Carbonite works well and is affordable for personal and small business customers
Chose Carbonite Endpoint
I use a mix of online backup solutions depending on the client's needs. If a client that I don't manage monthly needs monthly backups, I typically suggest Carbonite for its ease of use.
Veeam Backup for AWS
Chose Veeam Backup for AWS
There really is not a comparison. Veeam is one of the only products that we have ever found to be just as good or better than was advertised. I would recommend it to anyone.
Chose Veeam Backup for AWS
Cost savings and a great support team.
Chose Veeam Backup for AWS
1. Ease of Use and Deployment
2. Comprehensive Backup and Recovery Features
3. Scalability and Performance
Chose Veeam Backup for AWS
Veeam Backup for AWS was easy to use and the GUI was much familiar since the Veeam backup was already used to backup different workloads such as File servers , virtual machine and SQL servers, Client was happy with the negotiations done with the Sales person from Veeam and …
Chose Veeam Backup for AWS
It's hard to manage and maintain, and there is no integration with on-prem tooling. There is very poor support and lower effort on external integration. I feel like I should use an open-source solution while paying for an enterprise product. There is tricky debugging in case of …
Chose Veeam Backup for AWS
The cost has been better that other cloud storage options. Also, the flexibility to run on various hardware and flexibility to store in various locations has been a big selling point. Unitrends was easier to setup and manage as hardware was included. But, with knowledgeable …
Chose Veeam Backup for AWS
Backup Exec was perfectly suited in the old backup paradygm, but they failed to jump into the virtualization world. Veeam did that specifically and is now the backup leader.
Chose Veeam Backup for AWS
I never had a different cloud backup solution. Only on site, and Veeam has been way better.
Chose Veeam Backup for AWS
Afther thar Veeam, our company had AWS Backup. When migrate to Veeam Backup for AWS inmediatly the operation and recovery time were less. We very like its efficiency and facility to operate. Our administrator and operator have skill on Veeam Backup and replication on premise. …
Chose Veeam Backup for AWS
I like the intuitive interface and the flexible aspects of the software, which combine into a powerful yet cost-effective tool that my staff can understand and utilize to manage our backup and restore environment.
Chose Veeam Backup for AWS
Veeam's interface is excellent and much improved over cohesity.
Chose Veeam Backup for AWS
Rubrik is a massive cost and requires a proprietary appliance.
Chose Veeam Backup for AWS
Our client has been satisfied with Veeam Backup for AWS until now. We did evaluate Rubrik but felt that Veeam Backup for AWS was superior as we had used Veeam Backup before. Rubrik probably works well for multi-cloud, hybrid environments, hypervisors, etc., but I guess the …
Chose Veeam Backup for AWS
The support is more faster and the documentations are very clearly. also the management and connection with AWS is much easiest.
Chose Veeam Backup for AWS
Veeam was more streamlines and efficient than BDRSuite.
Chose Veeam Backup for AWS
I was a former user of Veritas Backup Exec, even before Veritas was acquired by Symantec. At that time, we were only running physical servers and backing up to tape. Things have come a very long way since then, and Veritas has not kept up. The software itself was cumbersome, …
Chose Veeam Backup for AWS
More secure, Don't care about managing on local site, Intergrade a lot services.
Chose Veeam Backup for AWS
Veeam covers all bases when it comes to backup and replication. It is a high point in security when it comes to ease of use.
Chose Veeam Backup for AWS
I haven't used others. Veeam Backup for AWS has been the only offering I have used. It does everything I need it to do and more, so there has been zero reason to evaluate other products.

Carbonite EndpointVeeam Backup for AWS

It's really great if you have a small or medium-sized business like ours. You can choose the number of computers you want to back up and pay per computer. And since it's pretty easy to set up and deploy, you don't need a dedicated IT guy to do it for you. On the other hand, if most of your data is already in the cloud (like Google Docs or Google Sheets) and you don't have any other critical data then you can get by without it.

Veeam Backup for AWS works best on the AWS environment. However, it falls short on other cloud infrastructures as well as on hybrid or multi-cloud environments. So it is highly imperative to ascertain the needs of your clients keeping in mind the criticality of the workloads, the data transmission, the network, security, and the infrastructure before deciding on which backup to suggest.

Pros
  • Protected file restoration: Users love having confidence that their files are being backed up remotely with no action required on their part.
  • Device tracking: While we've only enabled this feature for a small set of key personnel, this feature is useful in helping to determine if a given asset is lost, and works across mobile device platforms - unlike in-built solutions for individual users.
  • Management console: The management console is clearly organized and easy to work with. Setting up groups and policies is logical and hierarchical, and makes managment tasks easy.

  • Restoring from the AWS cloud to an existing virtual machine (VM), a freshly created VM (VM), a sandbox environment, etc.
  • Using Amazon Web Services' (Amazon) cloud as a backup destination.
  • The Veeam B&R product family offers a convenient interface for managing backups.

Cons
  • Carbonite indicates which files are being backed up by its dot system so that you can easily backup a single file that you don't see the dot on by selecting that option from the file's context menu. But there is no place for me to go to select entire folders or data sets so that it will back up everything in that folder, regardless of file type. Carbonite automatically backs up a majority of files types by default but does not take into consideration specialized file types like font files. These files are very important for a designer like myself and I can't afford to lose my fonts. But I also don't want to have to select the option to back them up one by one. I have over 1,000 of them! So there is definite room for improvement here.
  • The cost is significantly more than what I paid for Mozy, almost double. For the first year, they are giving old Mozy users a deal comparable to Mozy's pricing, but after that my pricing will be almost double what I used to pay.

  • Latency was an issue sometimes and after backing up data for 95%, the backup will fail and we will have to re-run
  • UX is great but we would like to have more CLI usage and automation baked into the solution. Especially now when GitOps (IaC) is getting traction.
  • Pricing wise the Veeam solution was difficult for native business to adopt.

Likelihood to Renew
I found their alerting to be very poor. I missed several days of backups without knowledge of this, until I signed into the portal. I would get daily emails reporting backups were in progress or done, but nothing indicating that a backup had been stuck or paused for 3 days. For this reason alone, I did not renew.

There are intentions to renew Veeam backup. the reasons are
pretty straightforward and self-explanatory. Veeam PM provides best backup
solution which can be explored from the answers to other questions. other
obvious reason, moving from one platform to other platform is expensive
exercise plus it's a time consuming exercise. So till the time Veeam costs and
the features are in line with enterprise expectation well good

Performance

We have not really noticed much difference and only notice it when doing work afterhours with our veeam being backed up. However, this is not the case as we do not do this often and hence we don't really have any real challenges for performance issues. Overall, we find that the performance is pretty good

Support Rating
Does what it needs to do quietly and efficiently in the background without interrupting the workflow. It offers instant automated back-ups without troubling the end user. As it is such an automated system, once it is up and running, there is little or no support needed from the service provider. From what I understand the support from Carbonite during the setup and implementation was absolutely fine.

One of the best and leading backup solution with central management for all Virtual Servers, Physical servers and Application level backup. Migrated from distributed backup solution running at each site to central VEEAM solution which has reduced overhead of backup administrator and improves the backup performance. Veeam team is very supportive in solution design, taken care of all our requirements and provided the cost effective solution.

We were pretty happy with our implementation as it was simple to deploy and we followed the technical guide online with out much technical assistance from vendor support. We had also tested and streamlined a process based on our own documentation for our own company which was simple to follow overall for deploying into AWS for future instances

Carbonite Endpoint 360 definitely has a solid footing in the market. Barracuda Essentials is a more comprehensive solution offering many additional features and complementing services including archiving and email Antispam and encryption. The cost has been better that other cloud storage options. Also, the flexibility to run on various hardware and flexibility to store in various locations has been a big selling point. Unitrends was easier to setup and manage as hardware was included. But, with knowledgeable staff, I'm able to manage this backup environment better than ever now.

We have using this solution since 2020. In that moment we had four Host Linux and today we have forty vm Linux and Windows. The solution work fine as with few vm as multiples vm. The backup operators lovely this feacture, because keep simple his duties. Finally, we use the same solution for AWS, Azure or onpremise. This is great characteristic for skill transfer over backup team!

Return on Investment
  • We have only started this process at this time and have not fully completed our transfer of data up to the cloud.
  • As far as business objectives, we now have at least implemented a backup solution on a very vital server at an off-site facility that had not ever been backed up in two years and holds data for a major constitutional office in the county.

  • Personally, I find that it helps me save a lot of time and effort as it is pretty easy to use and user-friendly. Veaam has proven to be a very reliable backup option for us over the past year.
  • Depending on the size and complexity of your AWS environment, backup and recovery performance may not be as fast as you would like. This can be particularly challenging if you have large volumes of data or need to perform backups frequently.
