Considered Both Products
Clay
Chose Clay
I have not figured out any other product in this space. There is no direct competitor of Clay and that's what makes it different and unique.
Chose Clay
Other products that we're looking at would be DataBar, Persona, and Freckle. Clay is significantly better versus any other products in market due to significantly better data coverage. And due to the flexibility of the UI.
Chose Clay
So I won't say the names, but I said that we've tried some Clay competitors and what we saw is that the data is not as reliable and the enrichment is not that rich than in Clay, for example.
Chose Clay
Honestly, not really any alternatives. I would find it really difficult to think of an alternative because if you have the right pick, basically the cost of switching for me is just too much to look further. So I'm really happy with what I'm getting for my money basically. I …

Clay is much easier to use compared to n8n but n8n beats clay in terms of pricing and data privacy.

Clay is fast and easy to iterate and experiment.

(I wrote iCustomer but it only recognized HiCustomer - iCustomer is an early stage competitor to Clay) I like Clay because it's easy to get started - the templates give you so many ideas and he community is incredibly strong. no one else has that going for them the way Clay …
Chose Clay
It's just different, honestly. I think it's a good 'out of the box' solution. It's got almost everything out could need in one place. But it's a little too powerful and far too expensive for the true scrappy startup compared to airtable + integrations. And it's too narrow in …
Chose Clay
Clay is phenomenal middle mad, and is better than 6sense. However, data points are not as good as zoominfo. Looking forward to using the sequencer but having ability to have an activity dashboard in salesloft makes it better suited for our needs
Chose Clay
CargoAi Marketplace, Persana AI, Apollo.io and Amplemarket

Clay is able to integrate many of these tools’ data in a waterfall and capabilities into its workflow.

excellent supplementary resource. Again, the HG Insights Platform lacks the contact element of the research.

We have evaluated all of these vendors and some are used in tangent with the HG Insights Platform. We found that for technographic data in particular HG gave the best coverage, but a few of these do help "fill the gaps" when occasion calls. We also use multiple intent engines …
Chose HG Insights Platform
I would say most have more features and integrations but it is easier to use the HG Insights Platform. And the unique opportunity to understand who is using a competitor gives insight into where expansion could happen.
Chose HG Insights Platform
The selection of the HG Insights Platform was a strategic decision driven by our specific needs in a crowded B2B market.
Chose HG Insights Platform
The HG Insights Platform layers on the CAPDB scoring capability which I have not seen in these other systems. It will even automate this process if you are willing to pay the extra price.

some of our sales team have used similar tools like 6sense and zoominfo, but I have not personally
Chose HG Insights Platform
- Sales Intel seems to be more of a direct competition. Their human research seems to be something interesting. Also the claim to focus on firmographics
- We went with Bombora for intent technology in the past
- We did not move forward with 6sense

Likelihood to Recommend
Sales automation is the most suited use case of Clay. You could generate GTM motions that are auto triggered by the signals, so you could actually create workflows that are triggered on specific signals. For example, a company gets new funding, you can reach out to the company within in a matter of minutes and you can track a lot of news that's happening on Google or using RSS feeds. You can patch that news into Clay and then manipulate that and get insights out of it. The second best use case is the data enrichment or data cleanup. Usually companies have CRMs with messy data. You can import that. Clay has native integrations with Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive, Marketo, and you can import those lists into Clay and then clean the data, enrich the data, and then push that forward, update the data in the CRMs. That's the second best use case that I use it for and would recommend it for.

The HG Insights Platform has helped us with GTM planning as we segment accounts amongst our verticals. There are verticals with specific tech stacks that we would like to prioritize, and HG Insights allows us to do that. The account scoring allows us to prioritize outreach efforts. We are able to use the technographics to weigh scoring and assign those accounts out accordingly.

Pros
  • Pros, I think there are a lot of pros, so I mentioned a couple of them already, so being able to use different data providers. I think being able to massage the data, I call it a data orchestration where I can get different points of inputs of data. I can throw everything in Clay and then I can make all the changes before I use them for campaigns, for email, for LinkedIn, for whatever reason I'm going to use my data, but it's really easy to enrich, it's really easy to do research. It's really easy to build agents that tie to each row in your dataset, like there are a lot of things that you could use it for that are huge pros.

  • It works great for seeing if the site or app for a company is hosted on AWS.
  • Intricately uses a different approach (vs the other tools we use) - which helps confirm from another angle.
  • It has a great google chrome plug-in.
  • UI/UX is modern and clean.

Cons
  • A max column limit. I run into the column limit all the time and kind of have to figure out using multiple tables. Just bugs really. I mean if you start getting too crazy on it, I feel like takes a long time. You can't really identify that it's working or if it's not. So that kind of slows things down a little bit.

  • integration with SFDC could be better
  • Sometime provides back an incorrect/no match when a better is available from an uploaded file, though this is getting slightly better
  • A way to gauge how many hits you will get off an intent topic before selecting them so you don't feel like one is going to waste could be useful.

Usability
I think it's actually before the launches today, I would say eight, but after they launch, what's the name of the product? I dunno if it was the web intent or the sculpture. 10, because I think that the sculpture was the missing part of plates till now.

It’s very easy to use, and the team is very responsive and friendly to work with. The information is unique and usable and can complement some of the data we get from call recordings. The integration with Salesforce is easy to implement and offers good insights into our database.

Alternatives Considered
Honestly, not really any alternatives. I would find it really difficult to think of an alternative because if you have the right pick, basically the cost of switching for me is just too much to look further. So I'm really happy with what I'm getting for my money basically. I haven't really tried any alternatives. I wouldn't even know any alternatives to be honest.

We have evaluated all of these vendors and some are used in tangent with the HG Insights Platform. We found that for technographic data in particular HG gave the best coverage, but a few of these do help "fill the gaps" when occasion calls. We also use multiple intent engines to help verify trends rather than being reliant on one platform. Other vendors also offer contact data as well which is integral for our outbound marketing campaigns which HG does not cover. Overall HG does perhaps stack up better than some of these however, it is only one source of data and using multiple is necessary to give a reliable result.

Return on Investment
  • Clay software enables us to find the best connect to build more qualified leads and ensure personalised outreach.
  • Use of the software in our organisation has promoted email marketing and content monetization.
  • The product has enhanced lead management enabling a full pipeline visibility from first contact to conversion.

  • I don't massively get involved in financial matters, but the propensity models we use internally to help run our campaigns are certainly a big factor when our sales people approach our clients.
  • Every campaign sold now comes with a flat data fee for us to run and use a propensity model for the activity we complete on behalf of our clients.
  • Whilst the client will never see the raw data behind the model (of which HG does play a part along with our other data sources) they are briefed on the methodology and reasoning behind them.
