I think it came down to cost, which I regret now.
Chose Practice Fusion
The only other EMR I have used is EPIC. I worked as a scribe for PAMF, where I spent 50 hours a week in front of EPIC. I got to know it really well, and have used PF much less, so it is difficult to make a comparison. EPIC came with so many more options to view test results, …
Chose Practice Fusion
It wasn't really a choice for me- I used the chiropractic specific when working for chiropractors and then used Practice Fusion while I was working for an alternative healthcare doctor.
The doctors all had chosen the software before signing me on, there wasn't really an option …
Chose Practice Fusion
NextGen is hard to use as far as medical records. Practice Fusion is user friendly. There is a great knowledge base for questions asked. Practice Fusion takes all the guess work out of the day.
Chose Practice Fusion
Practice fusion is much more user friendly than the other programs that we have used. The more costly EMR's were definitely no better and the ones we have used were not nearly as easy to use. I would highly recommend practice fusion over Athena or Allscripts.
Chose Practice Fusion
I personally would recommend Cerner over all other EMRs due to the ability to customize and navigate through the system.
Tebra Billing & Payments
Chose Tebra Billing & Payments
I used trusted reviews and conversations with others to determine my initial interest in Kareo. I was so happy with the initial trial period that I had no need to look further.
Chose Tebra Billing & Payments
The company had Kareo when I started working there but before that, they used a system that didn't offer the same features as Kareo. After looking at the old software, I am glad they had switched when I came on board.
Chose Tebra Billing & Payments
We used BrickMed for 6 years before switching to Kareo and WebPT. BrickMed was great as a billing tool but did not work well as an EHR for our Clinic.
Chose Tebra Billing & Payments
We are much happier with Kareo than Compulink. The software as a service makes it easy to manage claims from multiple locations when I cannot be on site. The reports and all other aspects I have mentioned as distinct to Kareo. We had a very hard time tracking things with …
Chose Tebra Billing & Payments
Kareo is the only billing software we have used. We are currently looking at WebPT's Therabill.
Chose Tebra Billing & Payments
Nextgen PM < Kareo < AdvancedMD

Fortunately, Kareo was a significantly better solution than Nextgen. Part of this was due to Kareo being cloud-based. We have found that AdvancedMD is a far-superior product relative to both of the other solutions we are currently using. Kareo's …
Chose Tebra Billing & Payments
Despite their limitations, at least, in my experience, SimplePractice reps don't lie to customers.
Chose Tebra Billing & Payments
We have enjoyed Kareo Medical Billing so much that we haven't had a reason to investigate another product!
Chose Tebra Billing & Payments
We have used several Practice Management programs which our doctors have chosen. Kareo is far above those in ease of use, efficiency and reporting. Training takes very little time as the program is intuitive. Licensing cost is reasonable. Our doctors enjoy the integration …
Chose Tebra Billing & Payments
We wanted a change from the previous PM system we had before that was old and out of date. Kareo has support that can help out and if they don't know the answer to something they will always get back to you by email or phone call with whatever it is you need. That is one thing …
Chose Tebra Billing & Payments
Kareo is plain and simple. NextGen always says you get what you pay for, however, NextGen is expensive for anyone and Kareo does the same thing for a fraction of the cost. Kareo gives our time management back to the office personnel. Everything is user-friendly, which NextGen …

Lackluster...at best? I have no words, honestly other than I was charged 5K up front for a one year subscription and I still can't receive refill requests or send labs directly. It's been a nightmare, from beginning to current. Currently attempting to just get out of my …
Chose Tebra Billing & Payments
Kareo offers way more than the other platforms that we researched, and at a better price. Kareo has scored well the last 4 years in the Blackbook Survey. The integration between the EHR and PM is fantastic. This allows for the entire revenue cycle to streamlined and monitored …
Chose Tebra Billing & Payments
It seems to have all the bells and whistles we need for our practice.

I think this is a great tool for a smaller practice, and I really like that it is not practice-specific. It seems like any type of doctor could use the site. I also think this is really great for remote workers because you are able to log on via the internet. I think that this tool would not be good for those looking to have a specific practice software. I've worked for other doctors alongside the one I used practice fusion for, and the other doctors used specialty specific software because of the customization to their job and charting.

In my experience, problems with them adding incorrect fees to pad their bills coupled with their unethical business practices such as locking you out from accessing your EMR at the drop of a hat prevent me from recommending Kareo to any practice. Reliability is paramount. Kareo's use of unethical business practices (locking you out from your EMR or disabling your EMR all together) can result in a physician being sanctioned by the medical board (inappropriate medical record keeping) or financially destroy a small practice leaving them with NO ACCESS to their ERAs/patient billing accounts etc leads me to NOT reccomend their products or doing business with them.

Pros
  • Organizes lab work for each patient. Its helpful for us to see a patient at a glance.
  • Schedule appointments for patients.

  • Kareo stays up to date on insurance changes which allow for smooth transitions.
  • Kareo asks for feedback and has a place to go and request changes or additions that would make our job easier.
  • I love that you can submit a help ticket or call, if you prefer, with any questions or problems that you may have. They are always very prompt with their follow up.

Cons
  • One of the biggest frustrations is that PF only imports PDFs of lab results, but does nothing to allow manipulation of the numbers within these PDFs. I can pull up lab results but can't look at a graph, for example, of trends in serum sodium or hematocrit.
  • Like EPIC, it would be nice to have an option like scrolling to all the "***"s using F2, which I always try to do on PF until I realize it does not work.
  • I wish PF had more dot phrases to pull in things like lab results, etc., into the note. Since I cannot copy and paste lab results (which are stored in PDF) or blow them in with a dot phrase, I have to manually re-write them, which leaves our notes more vulnerable to human error. If this feature DOES exist, it isn't obvious to me or anyone in our clinic.
  • It would be really nice to hear from PF support to see if we had any unmet needs in the clinic so that they could educate us on how to better use this EMR to support those needs.

  • Kareo support is not the most timely. I have to wait far longer too many days than I should when the occasional problem arises.
  • Kareo does not have a connection with one certain clearing house (Jopari )that would make me able to submit some additional claims electronically.
  • Kareo used to have the ability to have an expected amount for each insurance in a table that let me know instantly if one particular payment paid less than expected. They took away that tool.

Usability
In my opinion and experience, they have a lack of customization so you have to constantly create hacks to make their system work for your practice.

Kareo Medical Billing is very user friendly and the support they provide allows users to get their questions answered quickly and efficiently. The wait time to receive help is usually pretty good and most of the time we can ger our questions answered. We have found that is the tech help is unable to answer our question, they will attempt to find a colleague who is able to help!

We always get a return call within the time stated. There are many available topics on the forum and it is often easy to find the issue you are seeking more information on. When we have tried the live chat feature we have been satisfied with the timeliness and response.

The only other EMR I have used is EPIC. I worked as a scribe for PAMF, where I spent 50 hours a week in front of EPIC. I got to know it really well, and have used PF much less, so it is difficult to make a comparison. EPIC came with so many more options to view test results, visits to other health facilities, and past notes. It also had so many more ways you could format your notes, blow in data, and statistically analyze data. While EPIC is a much more comprehensive and well-supported EMR, it also would be too heavy and unnecessary for the small scale clinic work I do at a community clinic. I feel that each EMR has the environment they are well-suited for, and I am glad to be using PF now.

Return on Investment
  • PRO -- I know now what I need in an EMR/EHR
  • CONS -- They have overcharged me and it has cost me money
  • CONS-- They have disregarded my legal rights which makes me unsure of keeping confidential info in their systems and it will cost me money to switch
  • CONS--They have cost me money with the time I've wasted to follow up on my own tickets that they refuse to follow up with

  • Kareo had an overall low return on investment.
  • Despite the software being active at our company, we were forced to transition to a different solution within 6-months of implementation.
  • The time spent attempting to reconcile the system to itself was rather wasteful.
