Both Avast and Norton have caused issues with their impact on system performance. Avast recently caused a major lag on a client-server, and Symantec slows down our systems so much that we ended up recommending more memory than was generally needed.

Watchguard Endpoint SecurityWebroot Endpoint Protection
Likelihood to Recommend
We offer Watchguard Endpoint Security as a low cost alternative to Sophos Endpoint. As such, I would recommend this product to anyone with a customer with that same sort of mindset. It would also be appropriate for customers with a more 'basic' environment as configuring profiles is far less in depth compared to Sophos.

The software tends to do a good job of basic protection but is not the best for larger clients and is not as powerful as some others offered on the market today. The support is not the best either, have had a hard time getting assistance in the past trying to resolve issues.

Pros
  • It does an excellent job of detecting and preventing threats
  • It uses global intelligence to reduce the time and effort I need to spend performing security operations
  • It is lightweight and easy to deploy to client computers using a single agent for all modules
Read full review
  • Webroot Endpoint Protection works very well at blocking threats quickly and can undo changes if a file turns out to be harmful, which has helped us in the past.
  • It runs quietly in the background without slowing down endpoints, even during scans, which is great.
  • You can manage all your devices from one online dashboard, making it easy to set rules and see security alerts. One pane of glass is always great.

Cons
  • As with any application of this nature, it can block processes or other suspected security risks that are actually safe.
  • While easy to use, it sometimes provides less learning opportunities for less experienced staff who are not as well-versed in these applications.

  • It was missing detections. We found a better product that detects more malware.
  • Deploying the endpoint agents was easy, but deploying Web Threat Shield was not and users could disable that functionality.
  • When you deactivated old endpoints, they were put in an "inactive" category. You could not then delete the "inactive" endpoints. For someone who likes to keep things clean, this was annoying.
  • I found the rollout of endpoint agent updates to be rather slow.

Likelihood to Renew
I will definitely renew the software licenses on all our clients when they expire.Again, I have never worked so well with antivirus software before today. Watchguard is an extremely adaptable software to our business needs and I don't think I want to try other solutions that the market offers

It has proven successful so far in our environment for controlling malware/virus outbreaks.

Usability
Easy and intuitive MSP management portal to manage all of your clients from a single pane of glass. Policies can be pushed down globally or individually based on needs. The client portal allows access to their tenant information and installs only which is nice if you are working with clients who might have an internal person or an IT team that also wants access to things to manage themself.

It does what it needs to do but we have noticed that malware is sort of uncommon and we have started to switch to other solutions of combating malware and suspicious activity such as using products like ThreatLocker and Field Effect, combined with things like malware bytes to perform scans when needed.

Reliability and Availability
The software is 100% managed on a cloud platform that can be managed via an account even if they are not present within the company network where the software is installed, I even always opened the control panel on the browser of my smartphone to monitor the situation.I have never experienced any abnormal software crashes

Performance
The only annoyance I complain, if we want to be picky, is the fact of the constant disconnections from the control panel.Every about 4 hours the account logs out even if I set the "remember this device" flag; having said that I have not noticed neither slowdowns nor conflicts with other software

Support Rating
I gave it a 10 because I compare it to air conditioning. I need it to work every day, 24/7. I need it to be reliable and not something that requires a ton of interaction from staff to make sure it works every day. In addition, I should be able to run other things at my house when the AC is on. Panda fits that description.

Support has been reliable up to this point. A request can easily be generated via the console and support responding in a reasonable time. We have not had any major issues other than the basic agents not communicating with the console and the like.

Online Training
The training was very helpful. It demonstrated how to configure the service for initial install, items to monitor, and how to set up for ongoing protection. Hands on training is more helpful but this is a good starting point

Implementation Rating
Implementation shouldn't present any problems in standard office environments. In environments with development teams, however, caution is needed. If zero trust is enabled, mechanisms must be in place to ensure that internal software isn't classified as a false positive (software certificate, exception folder, etc.)

I had some difficulties with remote users. I ended up needing to open a remote tech support session and finish the process. Other than a few speed bumps, I was impressed with the engineering of the install. Because of time differences, I was done installing in two days. The cost, per license, could be less.

Alternatives Considered
Way back in the day, I have used Norton end point security and really did not like the speed at which it tried to do its job. I know I am dating myself here. WatchGuard Endpoint Security, I feel, is light years ahead of Norton's product. WatchGuard Endpoint Security is FAST, ACCURATE, and truly an enterprise product.

We would consider Webroot in the top 5 when you factor in ease of use, level of protection, and cost. Question what impact the acquisition by OpenText is having on future development and support. OpenText also acquire Carbonite for back-up support.

Scalability
With the implementation of watchguard (at the beginning Panda Endpoint, but it is the same) I was able to insert in the control panel all the unauthorized software previously installed by colleagues without any authorization from the various department heads. Now any licensed software goes into lockdown and can be unlocked from the control panel

  • It saves us time and money in the fact that it runs and we never really have to worry about that part of IT. IT just runs
  • Being able to centrally manage the clients is another plus because of being able to reach it virtually anywhere.
  • Very simple quick installs. Gives us time to do other things.
