Use Cases and Deployment Scope

At my company, we use Teams primarily to instant message one another across the entire organization. If you need a quick answer it is preferable to email. We also use it however to store and share documents. It is also great at taking and organizing notes. It also has task board functionality.

Pros

  • Integrates with Outlook and SharePoint
  • Instant messaging
  • Stores documents and notes

Cons

  • Hard to tell if someone is actually "away"
  • Missing some Lync functionality
  • Hard to find in SharePoint where docs are kept

Most Important Features

  • Mobile app
  • Seeing people's status (away, available)
  • Integration with other tools such as Outlook and SharePoint

Return on Investment

  • Increased collaboration
  • Helped with sharing documents
  • Better organization of shareable content

Alternatives Considered

Skype for Business (formerly Lync) and now part of Microsoft Teams

Other Software Used

Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365), Microsoft SharePoint, Notepad++

A good complementary tool

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Microsoft Teams for meetings with external partners like web agencies or talent acquisition firms to hire people for my teams. It allows me to exchange with people that are not based in my city and see if we have an opportunity to work together and if we can bring value on the table.

Pros

  • Web or application tools for meeting
  • Allow team meeting with many people
  • Interactive possibilities: screen sharing, chat etc...

Cons

  • Video quality can be improved
  • Call reliability / stability
  • Application seems useless in many context regarding web app feature coverage

Return on Investment

  • Allow to exchange with everyone, Microsoft Teams user or not
  • Web based version to avoid app installation
  • Large scope of features for team workshop, like feature framing, talent acquisition meeting, etc...

Microsoft Teams - evolving and becoming the new jack of all trades

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Microsoft Teams has replaced our previous document repository tool and has also replaced Skype as our new communication within teams members. It has a good structure to it (provided it is thought out), ease in use and good UI. There is also the ability to search within Microsoft Teams and that makes it easy to search for files/folders and communication history. It also integrates well with other plugins such as Microsoft power apps, Miro etc. so that has been a great help in managing work and comms.

Pros

  • provides ability to organise folders and files (good front end to sharepoint)
  • provides great use of communication between team members and external parties
  • provides great integration with other apps such as Microsoft power platform, Miro etc.

Cons

  • The search function could be made better- especially for finding things within chats
  • It is a little annoying going to previous pages within Microsoft Teams, at times i feel like it would be nice to open things in a new windows
  • sometimes Microsoft Team crashes - but very rarely and that can be a pain

Return on Investment

  • Less time waste in finding files/folders
  • Good that it integrates with mobile as well as desktop
  • Easier to contact team members and create group chats

Alternatives Considered

Microsoft SharePoint

Other Software Used

Atlassian Confluence, Azure DevOps Services, Microsoft 365
