Use Cases and Deployment Scope

In my organisation we use SAP Business Technology Platform to make data easy to use. For example our sales numbers are all over place in excel making reports takes hours. Now this platform gives live dashboards, connect all systems. we can see product performance in any location quickly. This avoids mistakes, saves time. currently we are mainly using it for sales but planning to use for inventory and customer insights also

Pros

  • For ex: in our sales team before using this platform we had numbers coming from different regions in separate Excel sheets. Its bringing all our data together, making it easy to use
  • Previously it used to take lot of time collecting & checking everything, but still at times numbers didnt match. With this platform all the data is connected in one place and we can see live dashboards.
  • we built app on top of this, like tool to track customer followups, good for automation

Cons

  • We were automating process to send followup emails to customers after sale but logic setup is confusing it does not trigger as expected. We have checked multiple times if workflow ran which is little frustrating.

Return on Investment

  • with live dashboards & automated data updates, we can see product performance instantly that helped us take decisions faster.
  • like tracking customer followups we built small tools on top of btp, which reduced lot of manual emails & reminders. Overall it made our work less errorprone more efficient

Being global SAP Business Technology Platform lead for Ford Motor Company, I am leading the SAP Business Technology Platform transformation for various services. This includes SAP Integration Suite, Build Workzone, SAP Build, AI Core, Test automation, QIR etc. In addition to that, we are also looking forward to solutions like VERTEX, Print queues, ADS etc in SAP Business Technology Platform.

Pros

  • Integration Suite with no doubt
  • SAP Build Workzone is a very good product
  • Also a very good platform for various tech

Cons

  • Monitoring is completely missing in SAP Business Technology Platform
  • Another thing that"s missing is a good overview in form of dashboards showing current status etc

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I am working as the SAP Platform manager responsible for implementing, running and administering SAP Business Technology Platform on the foundational level. "My" use case is to enable our functional teams to leverage SAP Business Technology Platform. SAP Business Technology Platform is open for all our SAP landscapes including full ERP suite, full aftersales/PS&L, warehouseing and so on.

Pros

  • Easy to start / Implement
  • Connectivity is running well with S4 cores
  • Easy enabling development for new use cases

Cons

  • User Management is painful. Split in different layers, no real overview, services user management could be completely different
  • We are having several issues with licensing. Some licenses are getting lost out of nowhere (but we get good support from our SAP partners)
  • No clear 3 Tier on subaccount level, which means at the end we pay for one environment at least 3 times which we used to just pay once

  • We are currently starting the SAP Business Technology Platform journey having ~100 Subaccounts.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We were building a SaaS product as an add-on for SAP and non-SAP ERP systems, within the tax compliance domain. The product targets a specific German tax law. We want to offer the solution with minimal implementation costs, in order to reach medium and smaller companies.

Pros

  • It allows building a SaaS platform, within the ABAP stack.
  • It offers integration with on premise systems.
  • It has a number of admin apps, ready to use.
  • It has built-in user and role management.
  • It offers patched and updated ABAP environmnts.

Cons

  • In the ABAP environment, I cannot add a git repository to a software component after creating the software component. And there is no way to transfer the development artefacts to a new software repository.

Return on Investment

  • Positive: Delivery of software to customers is done fast.
  • Negative: initial learning curve, especially for technical cloud architects

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use the SAP Business Technology Platform products to support our S4HANA system, C4C, SF, Datasphere, etc in the daily business. SAP Business Technology Platform makes our live easier because staying close to the standard, means you can build new solutions very quickly. We like how easy and fast we can deploy new applications and also the pricing model.

Pros

  • Integration between SAP and Non-SAP
  • Data enrichment for SF
  • Expose applications to internet

Cons

  • Use the same licensing for all product, datasphere is now out of SAP Business Technology Platform
  • All SAP Business Technology Platform applications should use the same roadmap, not that there are differences in the usage (like Cloud connector, in Datashpere is a different setup)
  • Usage of SAP Business Technology Platform AI needs another contract

Return on Investment

  • Very fast integration possible between SAP and Non-SAP applications. There less need to develop our own connector which saves a lot of time and money.
  • Usage of the centralized Identity Services (IAM & IPS) for all SAP Business Technology Platform applications can be all done with our own SAP team. Normally we have to ask our Identiy Team to provide the SAML2 certificates. Having 30 applications we have a lot of administrative effort to renew these certificates every year.
