What is SAP Master Data Governance?

SAP Master Data Governance is a master data management solution that helps users to implement a cohesive and harmonized master data management strategy across all master data domains. It is presented as a solution that simplifies enterprise data management, increases data accuracy, and that facilitates consolidation, central governance and data quality management.

The SAP Master Data Governance, cloud edition, a cloud-native solution provides a complementary deployment option for SAP Master Data Governance on SAP S/4HANA. It also allows companies to kick-start a net new corporate master data management initiative at a very low entry barrier, with the option to build out additional master data governance use cases at their own speed.

Integration with other SAP solutions supports the reuse of data models, business logic, and validation frameworks with open integration to third-party products and services to support the entire technology stack.

We had over 80 different business units maintaining their vendor lists on different systems with varying levels of compliance checks. The approvals and workflow built into SAP Master Data Governance has allowed our many divisions to follow the same procedure for vendor management.

SAP Master Data Governance Review

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Currently using SAP Master Data Governance for material and customer Creation/Change process. Interface for users that are not SMEs is a little better and easier than standard ECC and SAP Master Data Governance allows us to build workflows for approvals for the entire process. The approval process is still somewhat complex to create new ones or change existing workflows and even changing approvers is not that simple. I would say the initial set up still takes some expert knowledge but once up and running the overall process is smooth and not very error prone.

Pros

  • Custom workflows
  • Simpler interface for end users
  • Creating process flow for business procedure

Cons

  • Complex set up
  • Workflow is not simple to add or change

Return on Investment

  • Hard to assign ROI this was part of overall implementation
