Use Cases and Deployment Scope

SimpleLegal is used in the day-to-day management of outside counsel matter management, ebilling, and spend management. Not only is it used for outside counsel management but also utilized for all vendors in the legal department. We are able to track timekeeper rates, budgets, and accruals through the system which allows us to manage our fiscal responsibilities in real-time.

Cons

  • Budget tracking.
  • Admin independence (being able to make system improvements/enhancements/changes without needing a SL rep).

Likelihood to Recommend

SimpleLegal is easy to use and easy to understand for everyone in the legal department. Their customer service is typically quick to respond and solve any issues that may arise on the customer side as well as the vendor side (CounselGo). There has been a bit of customer dissatisfaction since being acquired by Onit but the enhancements and roadmap continue to look promising.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our entire law firm used SimpleLegal as our all in one legal operations software platform. It is a central place to manage all of your legal operations including matters, vendors, spend and knowledge management. We also used its reporting and analytics module for reporting/analytics that our managing partner required.

Pros

  • SimpleLegal does a great job tracking expenses.
  • SimpleLegal does a great job at creating, tracking and analyzing matters.
  • SimpleLegal does a good job with reporting and analytics.

Cons

  • I didn't feel like the spend management system was enough, we bypassed it and used QuickBooks.
  • SimpleLegal has a bunch of API integrations, but I think they could use some more "out of the box" integrations that didn't require a developer to set up integrations (which their open API does allow). This is just nitpicking though, they do have a good amount of out of the box integrations.

Likelihood to Recommend

SimpleLegal is well suited for many different sized law firms that want to centralize their matter management, spend management, and vendor management into one platform. It also meets the most rigorous reporting requirements.
