It’s more precise then other tools and it’s very much easy to use then other tools.
Chose ADP Vantage (legacy)
Haven't used others in the current role but I heard from our HR about the great functionality and not so high switching costs for ADP vantage.
Chose ADP Vantage (legacy)
If I would be able to select the payroll product, it would be ADP Workforce now.
Chose ADP Vantage (legacy)
I think that ADP Vantage HCM is better than Workforce Now. It is easier to use and has better capabilities. I didn't encounter as many glitches in Enterprise, though. I think ADP Vantage HCM has some issues where it doesn't work properly, and you need to use a different browser …
Chose ADP Vantage (legacy)
Working in human resources and payroll for many years, I have used Ultipro, Paylocity, company created payroll systems, as well as several version of ADP. Although ADP Vantage is, in some ways an improvement in older versions of ADP, it is an absolute step backwards from ADP …

Chose ADP Vantage (legacy)
ADP Vantage HCM is truly a plug and play product. Implementation is effective, tools strong and support team is great.
Chose ADP Vantage (legacy)
Kronos. ADP is maintained and was a much-needed upgrade from Kronos, which provided poor reporting tools and basic query building capabilities.
Chose ADP Vantage (legacy)
I have been working in HR and payroll for many years; when I first started, we were using PC/PW with a separate system for our Human Resources needs. The ability and ease of use of having information from both departments is invaluable. The ease of use of ADP Vantage HCM is …
Chose ADP Vantage (legacy)
We have only used ADP for payroll processing since we moved from doing payroll internally in the 80s.
Chose ADP Vantage (legacy)
PeopleSoft isn't a user-friendly platform. It was difficult to learn and had issues continuously. We previously used that platform before our company was sold and we turned into a stand alone company. We looked at several systems but none compared to ADP Vantage HCM for the …
Chose ADP Vantage (legacy)
We actually use both.
ADP is easier to program in terms of entitlements. Vantage is also user friendly, it has intuitive uses.
Ceridian T&A is great for retailers, robust but with a higher learning curve. It does require training, Ceridian's support is very different than ADP. …
Chose ADP Vantage (legacy)
ADP Vantage was chosen because ADP is best in class for payroll service. They excel in garnishments; they excel in taxes; they excel in payroll delivery; they excel in customer service; they excel in actual payments; Vantage was their latest and greatest payroll processing …
Chose ADP Vantage (legacy)
This has been a large cost savings to us.
Chose ADP Vantage (legacy)
ADP Vantage is hands-down a better solution and one that better suits our needs.

About equal in terms of user adoption and look and feel. Advanced Technology and HTML 5 platforms for Mobile work. The customer support and the Customer community (Bridge) is not great. There are no location user groups for customers to get together and collaborate aside …
Chose ADP Vantage (legacy)
Having timecards, benefits, and payroll all in one program is a big plus! The system we converted from was very archaic and we needed a system to be able to handle 30 payrolls with the possible of adding additional companies over the new few years. Also, to have a company …
Chose ADP Vantage (legacy)
We currently use Smart Compliance with Vantage. I'd say they even out as far as meeting our expectations.
Chose ADP Vantage (legacy)
Leadership selected ADP Vantage due to pricing. I had no decision on what we chose.
Chose ADP Vantage (legacy)
I think ADP offers a better product for self-service associates, whereas UltiPro was much more user-friendly for the support team.
Chose ADP Vantage (legacy)
ADP Vantage is more reliable and user-friendly than previous platforms utilized.
Chose ADP Vantage (legacy)
We have been using ADP Vantage for 6+ years so it would not be fair to compare it to products we used 6+ years ago as those are now outdated. Although I can compare the relationship. I like being an ADP client because of the reputation of ADP and the way it takes care of its …
Gusto
Chose Gusto
I selected Gusto due to pricing and my accountant's recommendation
Chose Gusto
Gusto is so much more user friendly and the customer service is excellent. Waiting on hold for ADP and Quickbooks was very frustrating and I almost never got my issue resolved. When I did get a call back, there was often a “hard sell” attached to the call.
Chose Gusto
It's been a while since I used QuickBooks for payroll, but it doesn't even come close to it. Gusto is infinitely easier, allowing for employee time tracking, handling calculations and payments of payroll and payroll taxes, managing regulatory compliance in the background, and …
Chose Gusto
We went from running payroll manually as ACH transactions through our bank straight to Gusto. We didn't look at other systems. Gusto checked all the boxes.
Chose Gusto
Gusto is more approachable with a less corporate, more personalized feel. When we started, it was helpful for Paychex to be a one-stop shop where they offered a ton of add on services we hadn't thought of but found useful. Now that we are better able to navigate our needs, …
Chose Gusto
Neither service I've used before has been so informative and had so much to offer. I think Gusto leaves other companies in the dust.
Chose Gusto
We found Gusto to be a better fit for our size and needs. Gusto is much more user-friendly and transparent with pricing. It’s easier to set up, and we liked that everything, from payroll to benefits to time tracking, is in one place without feeling overly complex. ADP felt …
Chose Gusto
We used ADP previously. But I don’t know the specific platform. We left when we were acquired.
Chose Gusto
Gusto is incredibly user friendly and leaves you with a step by step guide of what you need to do, what you're missing and helps catches everything you might have missed.
Chose Gusto
Workful was a budget-conscious choice last year. However, it couldn't handle the nuances of a non-profit and was also not available to automate payroll tax filing in every state. They abruptly stopped offering payroll service, leaving me to switch clients immediately. …
Chose Gusto
Gusto is way easier to use and understand than other platforms. They just focus on what they're really good at without cluttering up the experience with other offers. The customer service is much better as well. Support is very responsive and helpful.
Chose Gusto
Too complicated for some users, frustration for some users on constantly having to change password too frequently. Not easily accessabile to all employees.
Chose Gusto
ADP was a pain to use. Gusto is easier and I don't feel overwhelmed. I've also saved some money with Gusto in comparison, though not a large amount.
Chose Gusto
I think Quickbooks is hard to navigate and it has too many outages/down times. In my experience, you have to jump through hoops to get your information updated. I think it is slow and ugly
Chose Gusto
Gusto is much easier to use than Quickbooks payroll. Gusto HR is better sutied for our needs compared to Bambee HR.
Chose Gusto
I honestly don't remember any others besides Paychex.. I don't recall having the ability (as an employee) to split my own direct deposits, or even remember a nice portal to log into. Perhaps they do have it and it wasn't communicated well to me. Gusto has always been super easy …
Chose Gusto
Gusto is very easy to use and navigate around their site. It offers individual care and concern when I run into a situation Where they speak English! They are easy to understand.
Chose Gusto
Overall, Gusto was the easiest human resources platform to use. Its UI is very intuitive and no complex at all. It is very simple to find anything you want, update information when needed and much more. Its price is fair and it is less expensive than other HR platforms. …
Chose Gusto
Gusto has many more features than this other program has to offer.
Chose Gusto
Gusto seems to offer everything that ADP Payroll does, but at a much more affordable cost. Gusto's prices are much more reasonable for very small businesses and startup businesses. Most of my clients fall into that category. I would say ADP is more for larger small …
Chose Gusto
Almost the same price BUT Gusto actually could run the payroll I needed (in multiple states for one employee) and that was ultimately why I switched. Square also didn't make me feel confident about their customer service and I often needed to call a few times about the same …

[ADP Vantage HCM is] great for big organizations with complex processes and who need all the features/functionalities provided by the platform. May not be very suitable for smaller companies who aren't as elaborate in terms of their HR processes and the enterprise licensing costs can be slightly prohibitive. Great for companies looking for plug-and-play solutions which need minimal/no customization off the shelf.

Gusto is a great fit for small teams and startups that want a simple, reliable way to run payroll, manage tax filings, and give CPAs access without constant micromanagement. It’s especially useful for founders who need something that “just works.” The human support has been excellent—especially when forwarding confusing IRS mail.
That said, it’s a bit less intuitive when it comes to benefits and compliance for fully remote companies. For example, labor law poster distribution isn’t streamlined for digital teams, and setting up benefits felt more complex than it needed to be. Still, I’d recommend Gusto to any startup looking to get payroll right from day one.

Pros
  • EPIP batch uploads are customizable. Each payroll processor was given their own upload template so they could input all of their changes on it, and then upload at payroll processing time.
  • We had multiple pay groups. ADP Vantage makes the ability to submit and close multiple pay groups individually very easy. This was a big pain point for us and we were able to speed our timing up by opening and closing our pay groups individually.
  • Report writing in ADP Vantage is a breeze. It has the ability to drag fields into the report writer, so you don't have to remember the exact fields you need. You can literally go to the screen you want to report off of, and drag the field into your report.

  • Gusto makes onboarding employees and ensuring their documents are signed very easy.
  • The way you can integrate things like Google Workspace makes both onboarding new employees into the apps you use a breeze, as well as when you need to offboard them.
  • Managing benefits is simple, because they take care of all the heavy lifting. I just have to review the options, make a selection, and they take it from there.

Cons
  • [The] tax setup section needs more work, it is unclear sometimes if we need to set up tax in Smart Compliances or somewhere else, and then the rode to make that tax active and add it to the employee.
  • [The] payroll audit could be more clear and include more data from all adjustments, for example, if there is [a] salary rate change, there [are] not flags to check that in [the] audit section of the payroll.

  • Adding in previous time manually could be more accessible.
  • Notifications for when employees manually change hours.
  • We should allow 1099 users to use the mobile app instead of restricting them to the website, especially since they can just log into the full website on their mobile device.

Because we have only been using the system for 5 years, we will continue using this service until our business outgrows the support we need or is unable to meet our needs. we need a system that will integrate with our carriers and well as our general ledger system. We are currently looking for another GL system to fit our needs that will need to integrate with ADPVantage

Unless they break it, I'm never leaving. It's just too easy. Gusto is also really affordable, and for what I pay, it's worth having the historical record within the system. I like that I can go back and pull up W2's for year's past. This sort of easy access reporting, has been helpful especially when getting reports for PPP loans.

Usability
It's a great product and the enhancements make it better all the time. I feel there are some areas that are severly lacking attention, such as Garnishments. This area of the product is not user friendly at all and ADP has not made an enhancement here since we went live 2012.

The overall platform and its speed of response are amazing. I would recommend this to any other business owner for ease of use and reliability. Email reminders are great if I’m super busy and have forgotten a few tasks. The price point compared to local payroll service is hands down a huge win.

Reliability and Availability
The software just works. I can count on one hand the number of actual outages I have experienced in the last 10 years. We have had slowdowns, where response/processing time was slow, but those too are few and far between. The redundancies and backups they have in place at ADP mean my resources are available all the time. The only reason I say 9 of 10 is because there are times when an update or patch will cause an issue in another part of the system that usually isn't discovered prior to the patch/update's implementation. These have happened several times. The plus side is that these are almost always resolved immediately.

Performance
Pages do load pretty swiftly, and reports do not take too long. However, I have noticed that most reports become available sooner than some. Which if you are trying to process payroll, it may slow you down and tends to be time consuming when you're in a crunch

I think it's important for other companies to do their research and to make sure to not be oversold like we were. We needed to have an implementation expert with the sales person who could have explained some of what we wanted was not doable without costing extra. It's for this reason that I'm giving ADP Vantage HCM this rating. Everything is a project and comes with an additional cost.

Gusto's customer service has really deteriorated lately and they seem to have really changed their focus. It used to be when you called you were routed to an individual who knew about payroll, benefits, reporting, etc. but now you get someone who seems to have not received the correct training. My last call about a dismissal payroll took me over an hour of my time and the person still could not help me and finally transferred me to someone else.

In-Person Training
I personally did not receive in-person training. I do know that person to person interaction is more efficient versus self taught and online training. The instructor can work at your pace, and you will be able to ask more questions to better understand the system and how it works. I also prefer in person training overall.

It was a great implementation, ADP went above and beyond to ensure it was successful. ADP hosted modeling sessions that included the subject matter experts from all areas. It was helpful that the implementation was all inclusive as we received indepth detail of how each area affects another.

It's been a while since I used QuickBooks for payroll, but it doesn't even come close to it. Gusto is infinitely easier, allowing for employee time tracking, handling calculations and payments of payroll and payroll taxes, managing regulatory compliance in the background, and more. I had a lot of moments using QuickBooks Payroll where I thought, "Am I even doing this right?" — it felt like you had to have additional knowledge of HR regulations in your state to do everything correctly. Gusto has it ALL handled so you can focus your time on higher-impact tasks in your business.

Scalability
ADP Vantage is able to scale to our needs. As your organization's payroll and time and attendance needs grow, ADP has optional modules (scheduler, HR, ect.) that can be purchased. The basic reporting and metrics are nice add-ons.

Return on Investment
  • Positive - saving the admins time by allowing EE's to access their own information.
  • Positive - Managers being able to use Vantage easily to manage their employees.
  • Negative - would probably be when the system gives you errors randomly that are not true errors. Once you refresh the page or log out and back in then the error does not come up. Not sure if this has to do with connection as well.
