In my opinion, Stay away from this RMM solution

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Purchased Datto RMM to manage 500 endpoints.

Pros

  • Agent installs quickly

Cons

  • In my opinion, Community ComStore and knowledge base are worthless.
  • In my experience, patching and endpoint auditing are inconsistent at best.
  • In my experience, you will have to write your own scripts for everything. Including installing network printers. That right. They don’t have a built-in script to deploy printers.
  • I think Support is Ok if you get the right person. In my experience, about 80% of the time, they will blame something other than their solution and close the ticket.
  • You will pay for onboarding which, in my experience, is little more than someone walking you through a canned deployment that I think they feed everyone. In my experience, nothing will be aimed at making the solution work for your environment.
  • I think the built in web remote tool is terrible. In my opinion, you will need to use Splashtop if you can get it to work consistently.
  • In my experience, built in agent browser won’t give you all Windows event logs.
  • In my experience, the file browser doesn’t tell you the date modified or size of folders.
  • In my experience, no WMI queries to show you what printers or other devices are installed or connected to the endpoint.
  • In my experience, jobs and audits take forever to run. You will also get false successes on some jobs. In my opinion, you will get to the point where you will have to check to make sure the job did what is was suppose to do.

Return on Investment

  • Any RMM is supposed to save time. Datto RMM has done the exact opposite for us. I have at least 80 hours sunk into this solution and it still doesn't work right for us.
  • In my opinion, don't even turn on Network discovery. In my experience, it doesn't work.
  • In my experience, GPO deployment doesn't work. In my opinion, you will be stuck installing the agent from a USB drive.

N-able RMM

Datto: great price, great features, but agent software can be unstable

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Datto for a variety of tools. The most used feature is remote access to their machines for troubleshooting. We also use it as an inventory tool, a remote scripting tool, and a simple data gathering. This really helps us get away from using a local AD server for pushing out changes to the machine since the machines simply need the agent installed and an internet connection.

Pros

  • Script jobs are easy to write up and quick to push out.
  • It gathers a lot of data regarding the machine.

Cons

  • We find ourselves with a good deal of machines where the Datto agent software simply stops working and requires a reinstall. Very annoying and getting worse.
  • More information about the machine would be nice, such as HDD/SDD model number.

Most Important Features

  • Remote access
  • Pushing remote scripts

Return on Investment

  • I've always had an RMM tool being used with our company, so I don't know what life was like for them beforehand. It's a massive time saver for sure. No more going to homes/desks when we can do it remotely with this tool. I think the cost is well worth the time saved.

Cons
