What is Stackby?

Stackby is designed to bring together the simplicity of spreadsheets, the functionality of databases and integrations with best business APIs to let anyone build their own tools, the way they want. No coding needed.

Users can build a database from scratch, import data from pre-existing sources like spreadsheets or Google Sheets, or choose from over 100 pre-built templates across multiple categories.

Stackby offers over 25 unique column types like text, number, date/time, collaborators, dropdowns, ratings, add formulas for automated computation, and users can bring in attachments from a computer or cloud storage, or link records between tables to define relationships, reference data from a different table altogether via lookup or aggregation.

Users can also connect columns to popular third-party APIs like YouTube, Facebook, MailChimp, SerpStat, Hunter.io, Clearbit, GitHub, etc., and let Stackby pull the desired information automatically via pre-built API functions.

Users can select specific data from the API response using a built-in JSON data explorer and configure the column(s). Once set, refresh to get data in real-time.

Visualize data in multiple data layouts - Table, Kanban, Calendar, Gallery, Custom Forms and Internal updatable forms.

All updates are synced automatically to enable collaboration in real-time by also adding checklists, setting reminders, even sending slack notifications for individual rows.

Great step-up from AirTable and SmartSuite

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Stackby to manage our business assets and track our creative endeavors. We were able to create databases that include letter segments, track images and biographies we use often, and even spreadsheets of published works.

We also love Stackby for track our podcast, description, social assets, and their effectiveness across the social media channels.

Pros

  • Be a spreadsheet on steroids

Cons

  • Look of the app isn't as fresh as alternatives
  • Some of the add-ons are confusing as to what you do and don't get in a plan
  • Would like some things like automations (limited) available to all plans

I use Stackby to manage a roster of clients we offer fiscal sponsorship to. Prior to Stackby I would need to cobble together Drive documents, spreadsheets, email lists, etc. Whereas Stackby allows me to both contain all of those processes in one place as well as then add automation to the mix.

We have found Stackby to be a flexible spreadsheet and database combo that can be integrated with other products. It helps extend spreadsheet use cases where relational database type functionality is needed. It allows us to create custom, dynamic applications which can fill needs in multiple departments and industries. It is also easy to implement and use for our organization.
